Sorry folks, went back 17 pages and couldn't find the pinkeye thread. Wanted to ask you what to do with a cow who has pink eye and has been treated once already but doesn't seem to be getting better. We gave her Liquimycin LA and some dry cow penicillin in the eye. It looked like it was improving but after 10 days it looked bad again. We gave her another dose of the same treatment.....what would you do?  Is it possible for a cow to get pinkeye in the same eye a week after she had it?

We inject the eye with penicillin and put a patch on.  We use Micotil.

We use mastitis cream and put it right in the eye, then if it is bad will also put on a demin patch with old K-mar glue. That is the only thing that glue is good for LOL!
We leave the bottom of the patch open for air. We use the mastitis cream if we have one with chaff or hay in it also. Seems to work for us.

a single dose of Draxxin.....

end of story

at the cost of it.... it should be end of story, end of the line..

many, much cheaper, more reasonable methods...

I do have to disagree with you......
we had one calf alot the same as the one that prompted this thread;
had patched the eye, given shots, eye got better then after the meds were worn off, the eye got bad again, so went through all that again, same result.

Then I was told by another purebred breeder about Draxxon.
one shot, and that is the end.

the calf that was forced to suffer because we tried more "traditional" methods didn't deserve all that.
we who had to run that calf up the chute how many times to treat that eye in a "traditional" way had better things to do.

You can do what you want, but I will pay a premium for a product that works the first time, saves me time, and saves the animal alot of pain and suffering.
