We are starting to plan our 4-H year and I am wondering what do other people do for activities, fund raisers and guest speakers.  Please share your ideas.  Thanks

Well we go to the state fair as a 4H club. The requirement is to enter something in the Parish(County) fair. We have a 4H beef club so we have fitters and judges come talk to the beef club. We don't really have fundraisers but we do service by things like hope for paws, coats for kids, things like that...sometimes Tractor Supply donates money...

Somethings we do every year are: awards banquet that we invite all of our steer buyers to come and watch the kids receive the trophies from last year, guest speakers, christmas party, work at community functions, clean trash out of highway ditches, annual tour of all members farms to see their projects, practice show, club achevement and inter-club competition.  We are looking for unique and simple fund-raising ideas that anyone has to share.

My 4-H club was never real active but back in the day, our football team participated in slave auctions.  The local salebarn would hold the auction and advertise it free of charge.  We usually had around 20 guys out for football and would usually raise around 3500-4000.  We sold it as 10 hours of work.  No job barred and each guy was auctioned individually.  It was a huge competition as to who was going to bring the most.  The worst job I ever got out of the deal was cleaning a chicken coop that was 20 x 30 and about 3 feet deep with chicken crap.  I coughed for a month after that.  ;D
