Has anyone heard of a polled buffalo? I have heard of white buffalo. I pulled a bison scapula out of a cut-bank.Was trying to id it. I notice 2 cow skeleton. It hit me that the cow skulls had no horns. All bison skulls should have horns except the young. I would think that beefalo could be polled I don't know. So gang push the beach ball back to me. Is the horned condition the natural condition and is the polled condition the mutation.A polled bison bull would have a hard time competing for cows. Is there a homozygous polled bison bull out there? ;D

There is no doubt the skeletons and skull were cattle. I just got to thinking if cattle have mutations of the polled and horned conditions would buffalo ever mutate to be polled. I was never sure wether the polled condition in cattle is the mutation condition or is the horned condition is the mutation. The same with red angus. The mutation is the red gene in homozygous black cattle. I just wondered if the same could happen in bison. The scapula I found is 8 foot under soil. It measured put to be a bison occidentalis species but I haven't heard back from the denver museum guy. I wonder if the paleo indians put out protein tubs and mineral for the bison(or white painted fences)? ;D

Ask Ted Turner.

you could also ask him about the federal bailout of bison meat.  nothing like taxpayers subsidizing a  product in search of a market.
