I have a question on popping pasterns.

I looked at a Sunseeker calf yesterday and noticed he had popping in pasterns.  First of all is this a Sunseeker trait?  Will it affect the calf all of showing life and lastly was I wise on not buying the calf??

Thanks for your time..

your right here it is a trait in sunseekers. and if it is just a calf, and hes popping, do not buy him no matter how good he is. i got a monopoly calf out of a sale. best calf i ever seen. popped em just a little when we got him. and then realized the hard way that that stuff gets worse with size and there is nothing you can do. take the advice and let another person have to deal with this stress that youll deal with if you buy that calf. and you will always second guess yourself when you get him and rember "i sorta thought there was something wrong here from the start"

Yes. Yes and Yes.
My boys have a sunseeker heifer and the older she got the more she popped.  She's a beautiful heifer but nothing I gave her corrected it.  I looked at another SunSeeker market heifer, Labor Day weekend at a well known jockey, she was sold for big money, but there is noway I would've bought her she was poppin as a calf. Yes you did the right thing to walk away.

THANK YOU a lot for your comments.  I am glad I went with my "gut" feeling and passed on the calf.  I think the owner thought I wasn't going to notice it, guess what "I DID."

We learn something new every day don't we in the cattle business...

What exactly does it mean if a calf is "popping at the pasterns?"  Is that the same as knuckling on the rear legs as a calf walks?

The ''owner'' should have pointed it out to you whether you noticed it or not... wouldn't buy cattle from them if I were you...

I'm still a little confused.  Do any of you folks know of any Youtube videos showing steers that "pop?" Thanks.

You will know it when you see it.  While walking forward, the toe on rear leg touches the ground and as they roll forward and place weight on their foot, the pastern will sort of "snap" into place instead of being a fluid motion.
