Google--ADM Alliance Nutrition (MoorMan's products) are top quality products. They also have protein blocks to supplement cattle. There website should be able to give you info. on their products and dealers of their products.

Which tub can you get the most protein bang for your buck?
I feed the Rangeland's dairy heifer tub last winter to spring calving beef cows. I needed protein to supplement junk hay and they did great on it. It was the cheapiest with the most stuff in it I could find in my area anyway

To figure out which tub gives you the most for your money you need to know the net weight of the tub, the price of the tub, & the digestable protein % of the tub.

Around here our Fleet Farm chain of stores sells a 30% all natural, 200 lb tub for around $50.  Distillers based, I believe.  I am not sure who manufactures it for them.  Plastic tub.

We fed those a couple years ago too...cows did good, but their consumption was very high!  Just like candy, and easier for them to chew it off, vs. licking it seemed.  We plan to try the Vitaferm Power Kegs this winter, as we have heard very good things from friends.

Ours consumed quite a bit the first week, but leveled off to less than 1 lb per day.  We had them out free choice while they were grazing corn stalks.  We have fed the 33#, 37% blocks too,  consumption was very low on these, but they kept getting drifted over by the snow.

Consumption rate would sure also need to be considered along with price/lb of digestable protein.

Cost example for the above listed tub by HAB would figure up like this; 200lbs x 30% all natural protein = 60lbs of digestable protein per tub. price /lb of digestable protein would be $50.00 / 60lbs protein = $.8333/lb of digestable protein for that tub. Probably a better thing to watch would be cost per hd/day.

CAB-running the numbers on my 33# blocks comes out to .65 /lb of protein, and the cows consumed less.  Better deal,  I just need to build a shed to put the blocks in to keep them from getting snowed under.  ;)

Most definately agree with the rate of consumption point.  Our local feed store sells much cheaper all natural tubs that the cows eat like candy, but it's much more cost effective to feed the Moorman's tubs that are practically twice the price because they consume much less per day.  Under consumption has never been a problem with our cattle.

A more alarming number would be the cost per lb of the other 70% of the tub.  200lbs x 70% = 140lbs.  $50/140lbs = $.357/lb
