We were very fortunate to recently acquire a new cow that will be going into our donor program; she is an Irish Whiskey x Angus that is THF and PHAF.  She is more moderately designed in her make-up with a powerful hip and big top.  She tracks very nicely and is structurally and skeletally correct.  She is due to calve to Walks Alone the 15th of March.

For those of you who have experience with Simmental or Simmental-influenced bulls, what might work well with the Whiskey genetics this new donor possesses?

Thank you for your suggestions.

For those of you who have asked, calf reports have been extremely favorable pertaining to Rumor Mill, our Mercedes Benz x Irish Whiskey AI bull we own with Blind Badger Ranch, Shea Geffert, and Bobby May.

If you wanted to copy the family that made Irish Whiskey so popular, Steel Force and or Carney Man have worked with those genetics very well. GCC has old sales catalogs available on their site. You can see some pretty fantastic females out of that mating. I would guess if you are going terminal you will know in March how those genetics look with Walks Alone. Picture would be great.

I am familiar with the Griswold matings you mentioned, for I have seen many of the Irish Whiskey x Steel Force progeny.  In terms of a terminal sire, I do know Walks Alone has worked well with her; that mating produced a $10,000 steer last spring.  I was simply looking to infuse some Simmental genetics into the equation.  I will attempt to get her pictured this weekend, if time and weather permit.

Thanks again, Shawn, for the information ...

I think chopper would definitly be a knock out of the park if you are looking for a hfr. The Maine Man could work too from lautners. If you are looking for a steer. I would say monoply or  one and only. One and only could through a cool looking hfr too.

Would love to see a picture of your new donor PWolfe

I apologize for the somewhat poor quality of the picture; it was getting dark, and I was trying to accomplish this task too quickly.  We are, however, quite excited about what she offers with her genetics.  Again, she is due to calve to Walks Alone in a few weeks.  Thank you to everyone who has given breeding recommendations; I appreciate it.
