Power 2 Change Update....Part 2

Couldn't find the original thread I started a month or so ago,  but wanted to give you some reports on what I've heard so far.

The breeder of P2C calved 11 1st calf heifers to him.  10 of the 11 settled to sexed female P2C......and the 11 head averaged 68#.  There was one of the 11 that had significant birth weight (90's).....but was made perfect skeletally and came right out with assistance.  For the most part, the others were unassisted or barely assisted so Brent could go on and get some other work done.  2/3's of them were baldies.

No Bull breds have ALL been unassisted or barely assisted, and the owners are LOVE'IN them....once again, several baldies....and occasionally a solid black one when you were sure you'd get a baldy! (just like Pale Face)

Various reports from across the country have ALL been positive.....MANY heifers with birth weight in the clubby pedigrees....were either unassisted or barely assisted.  I heard of one cow that always has big ones, had one in the 90's but came out fine.

P2C has Bando (Angus), Black Destiny (Sm) and Dream On (Sm) and Who, ALL CALVING EASE SIRES in his pedigree.....couple that with the way he is designed, and THAT"S WHY I bought him, gambling on him being my GO TO CALVING EASE BULL......but you never know until they're proven. 

I feel the DESIGN of the BULL has about as much to do with his calving ease as his pedigree.....look at the bulls that have proven themselves for a decade and I see MANY similarities phenotypically. 

I went down to Brents about a month ago and he had 3 on the ground and I was really impressed.  Granted they didn't look like heatwaves, but you don't want them too.  They were nice patterned calves that looked like they would have some grow to them.  Thats about all you can ask from a first calver in my mind.  Anytime a heifer calves and when you get done she's alive and the calf is alive thats a victory in my mind.

I like the one that I have and the few that I have seen. Our heifer came about 60 lbs. out of a 3 year old cow, got up and nursed quick, and has progressed very nicely since. The ones I have seen are very well built and sound with a lot of look and extension for being out of a 1/2 Sim bull, with more muscle shape than I was expecting from the pedigree and pictures. I will be using him again and think he will be useful genetics as far as being clean of defects and low BW, just have to figure out just what he'll go best with. I'm thinking he might be able to bring alot of positives to a  moderate cow with hair and middle. Time will tell
