Pretty sure EXT was a half sib mating...but if you like the bull and his dam is really good, then many would try this mating on purpose to concentrate the genetics of the cow. The result ( if no carriers are involved) may lack growth but, theoretically, that will even out in the next mating.

Ditto what librarian said.
EXT was a result of a half-sib mating (Emulation 31 was grandsire, top and bottom).
As stated, unless there are lethal genetic defects in the mix, a resulting calf will likely be just fine.  No need to insert human mores into the situation...cattle don't care... and, for the most part, genes don't care, either.  A son/dam mating will merely increase the likelihood of 'fixing' both desirable traits - and undesirable ones, as well.

Commercial herd here, we have quite a number of cows that are the result of sire/granddaughter matings... and a few that are the result of sire/daughter matings.  They're fine.  But, if there were defects in the mix... the likelihood that they'll be expressed is increased.

That said, I never turn an AIed cow out to the bull until she's well out of standing heat... we usually wait at least another day, just to make sure.
