price of semen

What is the highest priced beef semen out there?  I recently heard of a bucking bull unit of semen that sold for $20,000....is that possible?  For one straw?  How could you afford to use that in A.I.?

The Folks at Great Lakes sire collect deer too and the prices on some of the bucks is pretty wild. I know alot of it starts at $1500.

The only measure of affordable in rough stock is whether you have the money in the bank (or line of credit) for it or not.  I tried modeling the economics behind it for a site we did and the only way for it to make any sort of sense was to look at it as a blatant pyramid.

I have heard that some breeders are using this expensive semen in IVF, where they can use only a drop per donor and stretch one unit of semen across many cows.  Thats way cool....
