I need some advice from my fellow planteers....I have been using at home a concoction of zoom bloom/kleen sheen/infusium 23 and vinegar and I like the way the hair is training and it is shiny and conditioned. However, it is not good for clipping, the hair is too heavy and doesn't give that pop I need. Was wondering what would be a good product to use at shows for display days and show day. Would pink oil/olive oil be the best choice? Thanks for any and all advice!

I might be an OLD TIMER -- but when my boys were growing up and showing, I reallyliked going out to the barn and mixing up thier daily training mix.

At the shows, it went along ways as well to keep those calves POPPED

75 % of the good old Wonder Sheen from Hamm's Supply, 15 % Rag Oil, with the remainder was the linement that we use for horses - name eludes me.

Mix this VERY VERY well each time you use it -- the Wonder Sheen is not as heavy as Zoom Bloom, where as the Rag oil will really keep the skin from drying out and keep the hair conditioned as well. The linement in there helped brek down the combo and freed up the hairs to seperate better.

We sprayed this on with a small hand sprayer -- not too much as to make the hair wet, but almost. Then we'd blow it in really realy good. They would pop like crazy and stay that way for hours with minimal touchups. When you comb them , the hair was soft and workable, but had lots of volume as texture to it. Plus, that stuff really smelled great. I still have a gallon stuck in the closet of the Wonder Sheen, can't say it is even around today, but it worked.

As well, I always used thier Blue Hair set for intial breaking the first week or so, had holding power without being too heavy. No need to wash out either as long as you didn't over do it!

Ah the days of youth! That stuff worked for me real well -- also do not use the old shampoo called Orvus -- it will take all the oils out of the hair and skin and make it dry and flacky. Hard to manage, but it will get rid of the bad stuff too for sure.

Good luck you guys  ;D

Try this - mix equal parts of olive oil and infusium 23 leave in conditioner and alcohol, fire up your blower and blow and blow and then blow some more. If it is still too heavy add more alcohol, this will depend on the kind and volume of hair your calves have. RW

You bring up your mixture is too heavy in the hair for clipping. I was always taught that if you were going to be clipping not to put anything in the hair. After clipping or for everyday stuff though i like a little kleen sheen with some liniment if needed. a real light oil aerosol works good on some too.

Just a little pink oil usually works for me when I'm gonna clip. But KleenSheen/Vinegar, with a couple ounces of liniment is really good too.

Take the zoom bloom out of your mix. Zoom Bloom seems to make the hair a little heavy if used everyday. I really like Sheen/Infusium/Linament/Vineger mixed about equal parts. The linament works really well at helping hair grow and the vineger conditions the skin. I would also suggest blowing this mixture in.

I am with Cowboy on the old school method.  I usually use 2/3 clean sheen, 1/3 rag oil, then add about 4-6 oz of liniment oil to the mix.  Just lightly spray on with a spray bottle, comb in, and blow until the hair is completely dry.

For clipping, this may be a new one for a lot of you, but I spray them down with WD 40.  Makes the hair pop, and gives a little oil in the hair to keep the blades lubed.  Just mist the WD 40 on with the blower, then blow into the hair well.

Just shampoo and rinse good before clipping and use Kleen sheen, infusium, linament, and a touch of vinegar for daily use.
