Proposition B

Any Missourians got any thoughts on prop. b? I know I'll be voting no on it... For those of you that don't know what it is, it is an HSUS backed bill designed to go after the puppy mills in MO, it isn't going to change the current regulations much, just going to limit the amount of animals that a breeder can have... I have just two questions: Are they going to stop with limiting the amount of dogs a breeder can have? or are they going to go after the beef or any other production animals next?

I am not from Missouri but the concern among many livestock producers is this bill is just a starting point in a broader attempt by the Humane Socieity to regulate all livestock production.  I can't stand those puppy mills but the answer is not more regulation and government intervention.  If you are in the market to buy a new puppy just say "show me" and if the breeder is one of those larger commercial breeders, walk the other way.

The HSUS always takes little bites at a time. For example in Colorado they have gotten a bill passed to ban caged sows. Colorado has a low number of hog confinements, but to HSUS it is a foot in the door. So yes if it is passed it is almost a give in that they will try to pass another bill with a little bit limitations then another then another. Lets hope the door just stays shut.

My husband has dogs. We are however NOT breeders. He hunts, and where he hunts is tough and he cannot run a dog for longer than a hour so he has lots of dogs. Now what is stopping someone from coming on our place and taking some of our dogs away saying we have too many. If you let them get started with this kind of law it will get worse. There are laws against cruelty and neglect to animals already, in force those and leave the good guys alone. HSUS has no good intentions only control in mind.

I'll definitely be voting no on this. If this passes, the HSUS will probably go after the livestock industry too. Think about it: Missouri is the top producer of both purebred dogs AND purebred cattle. Once the HSUS knows that it can get stuff passed here, it will probably keep coming back. I wish the HSUS would just stay out of Missouri!!

I do not like that it is called a "puppy mill" bill either. It is sounds like slag for a bad dog breeder. This will hurt the good dog breeders too! Not to mention confuse voters.

I agree there are many respectible dog breeders that have multiple females.  The breeder that I got my dog from has at some times 6 females at a time, but she is in no way a puppy mill.  Thill bill also has the ability to make it into different sectors of the animal breeding industry. 

i'm sure i can get an acorn group to register us out of staters to vote 7 or 8 times, some as dead people.

I am very afraid that Prop B is going to pass in MO.  The ads that HSUS are running are flat good and they also got good press out of Fox News yesterday!(Of all places)  HSUS can seem so reasonable to people that they only look at what is being presented and don't see the big picture. 

There is another amendment that stands watching here in Missouri that would limit taxing real estate sales.  The wording is very confusing on all of these propositions and amendments please read carefully.  Some are vote yes and some are vote no.  I think that this is deliberate on the Sec of State Carnahans part to gather funding from HSUS and others as she is in a race for the Senate with Blunt.

I will definately Vote NO on Prop B.

I am afraid it will pass as well... HSUS is pretty darn good at separating themselves from PETA even though there's not much of a difference between the 2. Just so aggravating how they can get away with it!!! I also wonder why there's any commercials or anything airing that are against prop. b.
