Considering AIing some of my REG. stock again. Have a Powerstroke x MR MT grand daughter (FLS Merry)that is expecting her third calf from my Dream On son herd bull. Her first two really clicked but thought I might try something different and she if she will click there too. Thought about trying Dikeman's Double Down with Select Sires with her. What's everybody's thoughts on him and open to other suggestions. Pic is an older one of her, been to hot to take a fresh one therefore she is larger now than in the pic.

Depends on if you want a showy type, herd replacement prospects, or terminal steers!  What are you looking for? :)

Just looking for good replacement stock as in for herd bulls and heifers as of now. Looking at an outcross for Dream On's and Powerstroke lines mainly.

rendition- one true simi bull that works... , as far as i know he should fit your genetic quota... not up to par on my simi pedigrees.
I have also heard good things about Rendition. I also hear Fat butt a lot, and Grandmaster has some good calves too. I have one I really like. I have a Fortunate Son daughter with some good milk EPD's, and she looks like she's gonna make a nice cow. Many of my non Dream On calves are coming this winter, so I don't know a lot at this point. We haven't used many outside bulls since we got ahold of our current herd sire. He makes some reallly good heifers and steers on any cow. He has alot of older genetics in him, and is out of a bull called Talladega. Some of our best cows are out of older genetics.

I've always liked the Powestroke's..I wish I had 100 of them to experiment with different sires! Your cow looks like she is stout enough and has enough depth and rib for me. The only thing I really see is that she breaks behind her shoulder. It is fairly difficult to find a good Simmi bull that is a total outcross to both Dream On and Powerstroke lines...even Rendition goes back to Powerstroke on the top side. Honestly, if you wanted to stay PB Simmi I'd look at Pacesetter or Upgrade. Upgrade may not make the best necked, coolest looking one out of your cow, but in my opinion he'd produce a very versatile prospect out of her.
If this was my cow, I'd breed her to an Angus or SimAngus in a heartbeat. I just love breeding my more powerful Simmi's to get percentages. In my opinion, they make much better replacements that Purebreds. I'd look at Lookout or Bismarck-both should click well. I am also a big fan of the Renegade bull. He's a halfblood by Macho and out of a Northern Improvement cow. He was undefeated in the show ring but I just think he is going to be able to do so much good for the breed.

Agree..our Simangus have some of the best calves in our commercial herd. If you breed them to an Angus, then you can breed their offspring back up to Simmental.

Thought I would stay with a solid pattern. Although I do really like Rendition. Just don't think she may be dark enough for me to throw in the white maybe if the bull is homozygous black and dark possibly. Is Rendition Homozygous Black? I'm just not a big fan of brown blaze calves. Might go with a 3/4 simmi, purebreds just seem to sell better for me than my SimAngus do. Thanks for the suggestions.

no he is not homo black.  he will throw color, actually some bit of color.. i've seen reds, r/w, and even a red oreo colored heifer from him.

the angus guys like him for that fact, lots of color, color sells in the ring, gives them something different.. the sim guys frown as they want to get rid of that color...  can't make em all happy.

i don't know that he'll make a brown, I think that's either dilutor coming out, or enviromentaly due to sun bleaching.  but then again if the female carries the diluter gene, any bull can sire one ( i think, again, I'm not a Sim guy)

Yeah, I thought Rendition was Heterozygous Black, thanks for confirming. Don't have anything against color variations matter of fact I like in them with color. I do think my cow is homozygous black, her Sire was and I think her Dam is. She just has a little to much dark chocolate. Her first two were solid black from a Heterozygous black Dream On son, and are great calves but still a tad brown. Therefore thought I would go with a homozygous black bull and strengthen the black gene for the 4th calf plus have an AI Sire closer in the pedigree again. My dark black cows I'll go with some baldy or blaze face bulls heter or homo black. My Red cows I like keeping their calves red so when I AI I'll go with Red bulls on them. Thinking Dikeman's Double Down because he's homozygous both ways has a nice CE, BW, MM, API and TI epd's but he's not proven yet so that might be misleading. Also because he's an outcross to Dream On, Powerstroke, and MR MT pedigree's. Considering Cut Above (Fat Butt), JDJ Infinite Justice, SHS Navigator, and SVF/NJC Amazon. Again thanks for the input.

Sounds like you've got a good lineup here! If youre really trying to focus on EPD's, Hook's Shear Froce and GW Lucky Man have some good ones. I know that they are some older genetics, but their EPD's are proven, ahd Shear force makes some killer cows!!
