OK, I know this has been discussed before but I'm still confused on it. Why do you need certificates for bulls? Who sets the price & do they change? Also, who gets the money? When you register a calf do you send the certificate money to the ASA? Like I said I'm all confused on this. I know some of the Maine bulls require one but the list is small &it seems like most have quite doing it.

Certificates cost $5, payable to the Assn. Some like Shorthornshop that handles them get a cut maybe $5, $5 go to the Assn., and the rest to the owner(s). Ex. Say I sell my bull's certs for $ 30 and Shorthornshop handles them: I would get $ 20, the Assn. gets $ 5, and Shorthornshop gets $ 5. The price above the base $ 5 is whatever the owner(s) wish to charge and they are different for different bulls. I know Cates charge $ 50/cert on a lot of their bulls. Others charge less. I sold semen on my bull for $ 25 cert included.
