ratchet straps work wonderfully and don't require welding or permanent changes to anything, we've done it that way over about 20,000 miles of road since my oldest sister started showing years ago.

We haul our stall display/stanchion whatever you want to call it on the outside of the trailer like that and I am sure it would also work for our grooming chute.  All we have is two brackets bolted to the side of the trailer with some small round rubber bumpers that are also permanently attached to the trailer.  The stall display just hangs on the two brackets and then the rubber bumpers keep the stall display from rubbing the paint off the trailer.  We then tighten them down with a ratchet strap or something similar.  The brackets and rubber bumpers are permanent, but don't take away from the trailer.

Do whatever you want but I'd sure feel a lot better with some kind of bracket there.  I guess ratchet straps do the job, but think about the kind of damage that a chute falling off a trailer at 70 mph could do on the interstate if a ratchet failed.  That's more liability than I care for.  Call me conservative if you want.

This made me giggle, because my husband said THE EXACT SAME THING!!!! We have been looking at options for something to hook the chute outside, and when I read that I thought it sounded good. Anyway, he looked at me like I was crazy and said what you just wrote, too much liability.

I'm out of town this week and cant send photos, but call Elite and order their brackets.  They'd be pretty hard to make.  My chute brackets and stall panel brackets (two different things) were either about 300 or 500 (i forget), but they work great.  The chute is much easier to physically load onto one of their brackets than just strapping one horizontally to a trailer (which I did for years).

Yes, they just bolt on to an aluminum trailer, all you have to do is drill holes.
