I am calling on all shorthorn breeders to find a really rare bull from the early 70's.  I am looking for Kenmar Ransom 32Z that was the sire of Mill Brook Ransom G-9 and Mill Brook Ransom 139.  I have a couple of cows that I would like to Flush too if I could track down this semen.  I know that the bull was owned or resided with the R Lee Johnson family out of Ohio But I doubt they our still in operation.  If anyone would know how to track some down it would be appreciated.

I would check with the Byland's in Loudonville, OH. They had an interest in him. They are still in business and I wouldn't be surprised if they did have some.

Byland is a good place to start. Also maybe check with Don Cagwin, as he showed the bull and used him as well. I think R Lee Johnson, could possibly have some semen left.

We sold "tank"  32 Z semen in our 2007 sale. Curt Hively consigned it- Highland Livestock Supply advertises on here.
I can also tell you where  Cunia, Rodeo Drive, Kinnaber Leader 9th, Leader 6th, and maybe even a amp of TPS Coronet Leader 21st, Roan Harvest Duke, Wexvale Polar Bar, & G 9 are all stashed away. PM if you wish

The bull I would like to find some semen off is the sire of Tank, Pleasant Dawn Seal 2nd x. He was an ABS sire for many years and he was a truly outstanding bull. I would not doubt that there may be a few doses of him sitting in a tank someplace, seeing he was a major league AI sire for ABS in that day. I do believe that there are some bulls from the past that could be revisited today. They were excellent beef bulls, and they are also complete outcrosses to most of today's genetics. This does not mean that all bulls from that era are worth using again. Some were bad then and are bad today. I see well known breeders using some sires from the past that sired calves with 8-10 inch rib eye area back then. Their semen should be dumped and they should be forgotten.

I remember seeing Tank when Drapers found him in a commercial herd, where he was used as a yearling. I thought he really looked tough, and I really wondered what they saw in him, but they were pretty excited about finding him. They got him sold to Questing Hills, where Don Cagwin was working as their herdsman. By the time he hit his first show, you would not know he was the same bull. Everyone thought he was the biggest thing they had ever seen. If memory serves me right, he weighed around 1700 at Denver as a coming three year old, so he would probably have been the size of many yearling bulls that are shown now. He was Champion Bull at Denver, and the crowd at ringside was one of the biggest I have ever seen there. People from all breeds came to watch the big Canadian bred Shorthorn bull in the ring.

Coyote, of SP fame, was fortunate enough to find a stash of semen from some of the best bulls of the past. He got semen from Seal 2nd, and Kinnaber Leader 9th, in particular, and he has some excellent females in his herd from these sires. I have attached a picture of a herd sire he has, that is out of a Seal 2nd cow. She is moderate framed, very feminine, perfect uddered and well proportioned... an excellent female.
