Red Angus bull "Buf Crk The Right Kind U199
« on: December 28, 2012, 01:49:53 AM »
Registration 1260155. I see him advertised from owner. I kinda like his numbers. Whats wrong with him? Just not used outside the breed? Seems like Buffalo creek has had 10 dispersals in the last 9 years. Any thoughts on him? 50$ a straw?

I guess he's up pretty close to lancer 442 though.

I have one heifer out of him and really like her so far.  Easy keeping, moderate and thick, good personality.  Not my tallest heifer at weaning but was the heaviest. We'll see how she holds up when she calves.  Used him on a few more cows this year.  I think his first crop of heifers will be calving out this spring.

He is a good bull.  I've seen some good sons out of a stout Cherokee canyon daughter.  Not until recently could you get semen so that has limited his use and his impact on the breed.  Sons have looked good at all the owners sale and are features.

I have seen cattle out of him, they seem to be good. I noticed this was a year ago so I most interested in hearing how the daughters bred, calved, udders, feet, etc. Any comments would be very welcome

I was always interested in how some bulls take off and gain popularity......get pulled into the big semen studs and etc. In the Shorthorn deal...seemed like the Rocker Bros were just so so and then all of sudden....Shorthorn nation couldn't get there fast enough......kind of a group think deal. Hubs shorthorns....Keith Lauer etc......they have great cattle and then all of a sudden someone discovers them and over night a breed's direction switches. I can't imagine how an outfit like ABS or Gennex sorts through thousands of bull prospects.

So far I can say with the few I have he will add thickness and bone for a calving ease bull. It seems that he won't improve leg structure, but won't make it worse, since the calves I have this year have basically the same as their dam's.  The heifer calved out fine, is likely bred back (PG checks next month), decent udder, and weaned off a decent calf. So far not dazzled by the bull but not disappointed.

They dispersed the cow herd in 2010 - the 2009 bulls sold in Feb 2011 and the 2010 bulls Dec of 2011.

The bull is owned by Buffalo Creek (they no longer have cows but have a semen inventory), 5L, Loosli and Westphal - he has 757 progeny in 127 groups - I am not sure there is anything wrong with him - he is a pretty good looking mature bull and has an interesting and different pedigree on the bottom

Got my Red Angus journal today. He was third in number of total registrations? I didn't realize he was used that heavily.

Any updates on this bull? Toying with the idea of going back with red angus bulls on our commercial shorthorn cows. Maybe some of his sons are a good option?

I can't add much. There is a son ......Pie the cowboy kind for 35$. Another son Pie one of a kind for 200$ a straw. I ended up using a Detour son naturally.
