Can't decide what to do here...... this calf is out of my favorite cow and a bull I own a full brother to. This red calf would be an outcross to everything I've got on the place except for mamma , and she's not getting any younger ! My question is , do I keep this calf back , is he good enough ??? I'll post a picture of his dam and the bull I would be replacing with him to get some opinions. Thanks in advance !

Here's a picture of his dam , she's sired by the old Leachman 600 U Bull. And also the bull I would be replacing with the red baldy calf.

Yes I may sell the black baldy bull if I keep the red one back , he's sired by Optimus Prime. Scott - thanks a bunch , the red calf is also out of an Optimus Prime son.

Mark its the pictures , he's standing way goofy on rough pasture. I apologize for not getting better shots of him. He's sound tho , no doubts there.

Thing that I like best about the red bull is that he has a darn good looking mother...If you could make 100 heifers like her, he'll be a good one!

Do you have any pics of the black bull at a similar age? That's the comparison I'd make and ultimately the determining factor.

I appreciate the cow comments , everyone ! When I bought that cow almost 10 years ago I told the guy I wish the whole group looked like her ! He kinda looked at me funny and said ," really ???? I think she's too much cow !!! "

You gotta be careful here man. As good as a calf might appear, I think it's important to 'dance with the one that brung ya".  If you could keep them both, I would.  I remember telling you I liked this black bull pretty good when you first posted him awhile back.  And I know I prefer his head over the red calf's. Without seeing the dimensions of them in person it's hard to say.  The cow is superb with her only thing I'd change being her base width.  If I were you, I'd make a list of all functional- or at least all traits you consider.  Then go through them awarding a 1 or a 0 to whichever you feel is better in that area.  Tally em up and move forward.  Either way, good cattle.
