My grandparents raise registered angus cattle and I have been halterbreaking one of their heifers.  I have only showed steers in the past and was wondering what everyone thought about this little girl.  Please be honest.

Looks real nice, what's her age.  Nice front and looks very square.  Looks like a good project.  Good luck

Looks to be really clean for an Angus, I would say go for it, heifers are much funner than steers, you get to keep them  :)

She doesn't have alot of hair and all of the ones that I've seen in their angus magazines seem to have alot of hair.  Will she get mor hair as she gets a little older?

If you start rising her everyday she will grow more hair. Also brush a lot and put fans on her. And since its your first year with heifers just have fun with it. I personally kike showing heifers more than steers.

I know up in our area, IN/KY you can get by showing an Angus heifer slick, at the Kentucky State Fair half of them were nearly slick.

A lot of the show cattle in Texas loose most of their hair in the summer anyway. She should have plenty of hair for the Fall and Winter shows.

I have had fun with her so far.  It's fun to be able to halterbreak one all by myself- my dad has to help with the steers at first, but if she tries to set back I can hold her so easy since she's small.  And it doesn't hurt when she steps on my foot!!

I've been showing angus for years and although you may get a hairy one every now and then they are pretty crap haired as a whole.  I wouldn't worry about the hair too much.

I don't see why not.  She would only show against heifers her own age anyhow.  We start showing January calves when they're six months old up here in Illinois, and don't stop showing them until they're about 22 months old or so.

She looks nice! Go for it!  You don't by chance know her pedigree?

believe it or not this is a great age to get the calf to imprint on which leg you are lifting and to lift with you and put down with you and stop dead in her tracks with you.

I had to call them to find out- this is it.  The sire is G13 structure and the dam is double bred scotch cap with leachman and traveler- hope I typed it right.

That heifer will show just fine in the Angus classes in Texas.  Don't worry about the hair, she looks like she'll have plenty next winter.

I think G13 Structure is a show bull so I say go for it. I'm from Texas too and used to show Angus heifers. I say go for it. By the majors she'll have enough hair if you work with it.
