Does anyone know how to go about getting a Certificate on Crimson Tide to register his calves as Shorthorn Plus?  I do not see the Certificates offered anywhere.  Maybe I am missing something as the calves would only be 25%.  Thanks for any information.  I might be missing something........

To my knowledge there is no place on the ASA website to see a list of "Other Breed" bulls or cows that may have been added to the registration list so that you can register progeny.

Example:  I use a Red Angus bull on my Shorthorn cow and get a 50/50 calf.  To register that calf I will need to pay the fee to add that Red Angus bull to the registration list so that I can get Shorthorn Plus papers on my calf.  I believe that once a breeder has paid the initial fee to add that Red Angus bull to the list-- if someone else uses him down the road, then those breeders benefit by having his data already on file with ASA and they can register those calves.  Double check my info with ASA, but I think that is how it works.

I have had to pay the initial fees before to get a different breed bull in the list so that I could register Plus calves.

To me that means that he is already in the list-- now you just need his ASA number.

What about your dam?  Is she a commercial  or a clubby or another breed cow?  If she is, know you will have to go through the Paperwork with ASA to get her listed and you will probably have to pay a fee to get her on the list.  Then you can fill out the application for Shorthorn Plus registration on your calf, pay any other fees due, and you should get a Shorthorn Plus paper-- 25% is still accepted in the book.  But you will need to check each show's rules if you want to show the calf Shorthorn plus, because some shows require 50% blood.

Hope I have been informative.

Yes you may need a certificate since it is an AI calf from Crimson Tide- sorry I missed that in your other posts.  Call the ASA office to see who they have listed as the current certificate seller for Crimson Tide, also check to be sure that you will definitely need one.  Then contact the person or business that can sell his certificates and order one.  Then you can supply the ASA with the certificate and application for your calf-- also remember to get your cow listed and you should be well on your way to getting papers.

Welcome to Shorthorns and we are glad to have you in our registry!
