So I have a calf that's got some really bad tag, and aside from just tearing it out, does anyone know some ways to help break it down so its easier and less painful to remove? Ive heard WD-40 works good.

Thought you were talking about ear tags fr a minute but I got it figured out ha best thing I I know to do is let them soak get them wet wait awhile and then get them wet again then when they get soft smash them with pliers, if they're not skin tight. A curry come for horses works really well to but  be careful it'll cut/pull out all they're hair. Good luck it usually just takes time.

WD-40 works awesome for tags. Soak down the area really well for about two days, then you should be able to wash or comb it right off. FYI, I would follow up with some revive or something like it. WD-40 can actually dry out the hair after a while and give it a funky texture.
