I recently bought a heifer who is vary quiet but has no respect for people. She likes to bunt while being led or rub on us, which I realize could cause an issue so don't allow her to pull it. She also getting her head tied up, and is NOT treated like a pet. While we have been correcting her, now that she's getting accustom to us she's gotten a lot worse about it. While getting the halter put on she pinned someone and started hammering them in the corner and it turned into a game for her. I have not had one like this in a long time, usually they are typically aggressive and we work it out of them with time or their just shy. I'm not sure how to get her out of this, as the only one I ever had like her was a steer, so he went to market. She's halter broke, sets up on her own, wont lift her leg, and walks up to you in the field. I'm guessing she was spoiled? I'm not sure but ill take any suggestions as to what to do with her.

I had one a couple years ago that was fine with me but my small scrawny son was another story. When he went in with the feed bucket the calf would come running at him and hit him or the bucket. What I did was give him a sawed off piece of old shovel handle. Small enough that he could swing it but long enough to get some force from. When the steer got close enough to hit my son would hit him on the bridge of the nose. It was just hard enough that the steer didn't like it but learned to keep some distance from the person. He also was told to make a kinda grunt so that the steer learned to associate both with stepping back. It didn't take long to get some respect back from him. If it looked for a minute that it would take this guy the other way and make him mean I would have stopped but it worked.

We also had a steer that was like this, we never did get him to stop and he went in the freezer. Having a heifer that does this is troublesome as how will you ever trust her even if you turn her in the breeding pasture and then when she calves she may just decide she is going to get who ever when ever she wants. I agree with DOC and try the clamp on nose ring as I am sure it will get her attention.

run her into the chute to put a halter on her, then she can't come at you, and she will learn not to try, put a show halter, and a rope halter on her, tie her with the rope, and lead her with the chain, she will learn to respect you quick enough when you go in the pen with her, put a shopping bag on the end of a stick, when she turns to you, shake it at her, she should back away, if she doesn't give her a swat, she will learn to associate the bag with the shot, and stay away while you have it
