Most of the Shorthorn breeders are steering clear of the defects, although I do see the resurgence of a few of these lines in noted herds.  To each their own.  While I personally don't approve of the knowing use of cattle with these genetics, I appreciate the fact that these breeders are clearly labeling their product.  It really irritates me when I see sale catalogs with cattle I know have PHA or TH carriers in their pedigree, yet they not tested and basically sold on a buyer beware program.  Unfortuanately, there are a few of those, too.

Makes sense and I can see where that could get irritateing trying to keep your herd clean.

It's much worse when you know you have carriers, but don't know which ones.  Used a bull several  years ago, and another one several generations ago, and it's not cost effective to blood test the entire herd of 70.  Gets to the point that I dont' mind using carrier bulls on the right cows and blood test the calves- but on the whole herd, and a live walking bull had better be clean of all knowns from this point forward.  I know we have carrier cows, and I know who some of them are...  Can't risk it though.
