In November, I was at a show and I was working with some cattle that had ringworm. I'd never had ringworm, so just as I suspected, I got ringworm shortly after.  The girl I was working for said that she'd had ringworm before, so she wouldn't get it again from cattle. My question is, is ringworm like chicken pox in the way that you can only get it once? Or only once from cattle, because that is a certain strain? And also, if I have ringworm, can I give it to other cattle?

It has been my experience that you can get it more than once.  My daughter caught it from our cattle last summer and had it for months before her immune system was finally able to really kick it.  Of course we used all the creams and stuff they tell you to use, and I think that helps to a point and definitely keeps it from spreading, but I really think it has to run its course.  My son and I never caught it last summer even though we were treating cattle who had it.  We finally came down with it late this fall when our immune system was kind of in the dumper during the start of the cold season (we were treating cattle with it this fall also).  Well long story short my daughter wound up with it again.  She had a much milder case that cleared in a couple weeks as opposed to the months it took her before.  Wow that was a long way around the subject, but my point is it has been my experience that it seems hit and miss whether you would get it or not, and yes you can get it twice.  JMO

Ringworm, I believe can be gotten more than once, although it seems our calves get it terrible during their first summer, and never get it again.. I still think it's living in the barn that they are in though...

If rw, is anything like soremouth, then yes you can only get each strain once-- key word strain.. there is 15 different strains of soremouth.

In my experience some people are more susceptible than others.  Some people seem to get it just by being in the same area as an animal that has it.  I've only had it once in my life and I've been around it alot on cattle, dogs, cats, etc.  I think I picked it up from a cat in the vet clinic where I worked and it was only a small spot that went away fairly quickly.
