I have a heifer and we are planning to breed to balboa this spring. I was wondering if anyone has had good/bad stories about him on these first calf heifers? ???
Had a calf out of him this past spring out of a Dr. Who heifer, calf was about 65 -70 lbs she had him on her own but when we found them he was real weak and we lost him. I wouldnt worry to much about him on heifers. I think most people get along well with him. Calves seem to be ok too, ours looked good from what you can tell about a 2 hour old dieing calf.
I was not impressed with our R.Balboa calves. They were light birthweight and alive. But not show quality. I prefer our Ali 2 and Northern Improvement calves as either show calves or functional females.
We have used Rocky on our 6 heifers. All were small and very easing calving except one bull calf which required an easy pull. The calves have been tremendous in terms of bone structure and hair. 50% bull and 50% heifer calves.
We have used him again this year on some of the second timers because we were so pleased. Gator Mom
We have one Rocky Balboa calf this year out of a Double Stuff second calf heifer he was late so he weighed 92lbs. He is a reall good steer. He has a lot of bone, tons of hair, real square hip and lots of growth but he does not have much of a neck. Other then his neck we're very happy with him.
