Some calves have some size to them, and some were fairly moderate.  He was used so heavily on just about everything when he first came out that people that didn't think first or ask questions about him first unlike what you are doing, got into some trouble and a bunch of people got upset over what birth weights were like on their heifers.  He is not a heifer safe bull.  Most that I have had were later maturing cattle, adds some hair, makes them real sound.  Gives them some body from my experience.  Good kinda bull but I would breed him to a little stouter made cow.  He can add some frame more often than not, he was a little guy himself, but I would breed to a more moderate cow as he will tend to increase frame.

Like Jacob said they can be on the larger size. He was used on a wide variety of cows when he 1st became available. Not all are huge, but definitely not a hfr bull. I have seen some really nice cows by him & they seem to milk pretty well.

I don't know if it's smart elic or not. These kinda bulls can be cow killers......please don't hide this possibility Doc. Not everybody has their private c-section barn at home.

I have been very happy with Ace of Diamonds and have had pretty good success with Sonny Deuce as well.

Yea, in my opinion the Trump on Trump response was smart alec & unsolicited. You had somebody asking a legit question and looking for help and guidance, not a schmuck running his pie hole. I not hiding anything. Yes, the Salutes can be larger calves at birth. By the same token they can also, be normal size also. Once again it can depend a lot on what kind of cow he is used on. He has a 8.8 BEPD. You also have a very popular bull right now that has a 8.5 BEPD(Phildon JBS Fringe). He looks a lot like the bull that grass feed says he just bought 20 straws of semen on. They both can be used in the right situation. They are not for everyone or every cow. JMHO.

I am just looking to breed an old shorthorn show heifer for a purebred. She needs guts. Any other ideas

What's the old show girl's bloodlines? Or if you want PM or post her registration.

AJ- maybe its the way its put. Honest answer yes. Helpful NO. I think Jacob nailed it and was tactful in answering. I don't think anyone is covering up the fact he has a BW EPD 8.8 and CE of -13.6. Is he my choice no but that's not what the poster was asking. Best to operate off of fact vs roomer and innuendo someone that has ACTUALLY USED the bull.

could be doc.. did you figure that out on your own-- or was it b/c I told everyone who the bull was?  Maybe I got such a great deal on the sticks- I couldn't pass it up...  Bull made like that deserves to be used- I think he's been mated to the wrong kind of cows to produce those birthweights.  He's being promoted for use on BIG cows-- and with BIG cows, comes BIG birthweights.  i think breed him moderate- and don't worry about it.  I was told be prepared to pull all of his calves--- but then again-- it will pay off when you sell them every single day..  Don't worry, i saw plenty of horid long legged, shallow gutless wonders this weekend- almost all sired by brothers to the bull in question on this page.  Bloodstone, Asset, his brothers, and whatever else- i really honestly didn't pay attention- just way broken records.

Didn't ever see where you had said who the bull was. Just saw some childish names under the pics. Man , you sure are a contradiction on so many things. You talk like you are anti show ring & need to "feed grass" only , but yet you are going to use a bull that they say be prepared to pull all the calves. By the way , I hate to break the news to you . He's not a brother to any of those bulls , only a paternal 1/2 brother.

Those bulls are all Trump sons or grandsons-- there was about 6 or 7 of the worthless SULL bulls who'd sired calves in that pen- I don't remember the names of the others, never paid attention to them.

Bottom line- the Fringe calves were hands down the best on the place, actually 2 places...

I think everyone has Salute about pegged. I think you could say the same about every other bull that has been mentioned so far on birthweight. I would use a Shorthorn who is small framed with Salute, but I wouldn't because of potential calving issues. I guess what I am saying is that a Salute daughter should be bred to a moderate or smaller framed Shorthorn bull. I got a pretty nice fall born Star Bucks bull calf out of my Salute daughter. I held her over and I'm breeding her to Complete this time.

Doc, don't let Grass Feed bother you. He's got the "I should have bought that bull blues" and they won't be getting any better after he visits my place in a month or so.

Grass Feed, you seriously bought a bunch of Fringe semen before you came and saw Complete? There goes the volume discount! (lol)

I was just fliiping through the post so sorry if someone already posted it but Salute is now deceased and the semen I believe is starting to be limited or atleast thats kind of what i thought the whole ad in the newer show circiut was saying. I believe his semen is still at $50. Someone mentioned using Ace of Diamonds but they can be huge as well. Another person mentioned Fringe and that can be a way to go. I have seen a fair share of calves out of Fringe that all had enough belly to them also Damn Proud will add belly to them as well. Personally if you like Salute I think it will be fine to use him.

It would be good for you to talk to Doc then. He has quiet a bit of irish blood and probably can tell you what you want. I have an idea of what she might look like. Is she smaller framed but needs some depth of rib. You want carrier genetics no carrier genetics? Double Stuff and Jazz lines work well together. Jazz lines also seem to work with some of the Trump females as well. He might add some needed body to your female. the Jazz bloodline will not add and size. Sonny bloodlines also work well on Double Stuff in my experience. There are quiet a few Sonny son's that woudl work as well. If you want to go off toward more maternal oriented soggier made , moderate cattle, then you have Captain Obvious and JTM's bull complete which I am sure with his new crop he can advise. There is also RS DV 034 which I saw in person and really liked. Contrary to what people say, I believe there is alot of diversity out there you just have to look and use it. I really liked Alta Cedar First Blood. I crossed him back on a Johnny walker red x sonny female and had a beautiful heifer unassisted. Not sure this helps. Just my two cents.

Thanks and yes. She is moderate but needs more depth of rib and maybe a tick more rib. I would like to stay away from carrier bulls
