That sale is CRAZY!  I would love to get up there for it some day.  I use SAV bulls on some of my shorthorn heifers and all I can say is WOW.  My wife's family uses Final Answer and Bismark alot.

Top selling bull went to a farm in Southeast Nebraska. They bought him for $270,000, no partnership. The bull's BW EPD is +5.7 which for angus standards is sky-high. I was very suprised when I heard the news. ???

Yea, I had heard $275,000 with a 89lb BW, like a 985 - 205 dy wt, & a 1,685 yrlng wt. I can't recall the farms' name off hand.

Charles Herbster is the owner or CEO of Conklin products. Some pretty neat stuff they have invented but you have to buy into it. Its sorta like a pyramid deal but its legit. Its sold kinda like Avon. I dont know that much about it but it makes serious molla. They have bought a bull before with another farm for big bucks. Mr Herbster has made his money and from what I can gather has a true interest in breeding beef cattle. I actually chatted with him on the phone once. Nice fella.

I LOVE Tom Burkes picure he uses. I probably saw that guy a dozen times before I put it together. He has fogotten more Angus than I know. If you calculate that bulls BW EPD to shorthorn he would be a -0.4.  ;D
Hard to ignore that kinda money. The fact that each year they out do themselves from the previous year is amazing considering the previous year. The cattle must work for someone cuz they keep coming back again and again. Somethin to be learned from that program and its sale IMO.

Supper time! Steak  ;D

Interesting...

My dad is a Conklin dealer & Charlie Herbster visited our place probably 15-20 years ago.  The products are indeed legit, but they are also kinda pricey, IMHO.  You can make some pretty BIG bucks selling their roofing & agricultural products in bulk, if you can find the right operations to use them.  Plus, they sell health supplements, auto lubricants, etc.  It's a big business.  No telling how much the Herbster's have made off of Conklin, but I am convinced that 270K is pocket change.  I also recall him talking about his purebred Angus cattle quite a bit during that visit, so I have no doubt about his interest in raising them.
