Thinking of flushing a cow before she gets too old and increase her progeny numbers.  Looking for heifers, obviously, and wondered what might be available.

Cow is a 4X4, moderate to small frame, clean neck, deep and broody. Needs little more bone, smoother shoulder and more hair would be nice.

Thought of Brilliance, used sexed last year, but ABS rep said they quit sexing his semen.  Conception rate below acceptable.  I know they have Uno Mas sexed, what's his concept. rates?  What else is available?  $50 - $75 range would be nice.  Would keep a few for replacements but if the numbers are enough, would want to market a few.

Trans Ova can reverse-sort any conventional semen to open up more possibilities, but then you're looking at much more than $50-75 per unit.

It cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $350 for 5ml of sexed Whizard semen. I'd have to go look at my records the embryologist wanted the 5ml split into two straws of 2.5ml. He put the first straw in and the 2nd I believe about 12 hours later. You could get 2.5ml of sexed and the other 2.5 of just conventional.

I have to agree with Shortybreeder on the reverse sort, ivf option.  You will get more heifer embryos from any bull you choose.  S&R Round Table will throw about as much bone as any Angus at a reasonable cost.

I know of one breeder who has had really good luck with UNO MAS sexed semen. He said he noticed very little difference if any on natural heats. Also said he had about a 10% drop off on synched cattle.

I agree with IVF as best, but most expensive option.

I have had poor luck with all 2.1ml sexed.

I have had good luck with the 3ml or 5ml from Trans Ova. It is harder to find.  Try emailing cattle visions on what they have, they will email back a current list.  I've seen some angus available if that's what your looking for.

We are collecting and sexing semen on Moto Moto at Hawkeye.  Bringing him down on Saturday.

He will give you big bodied feminine females with bone, good structure, and a little more hair.

Pictures are of Moto Moto as a coming 2yr old, slick sheared as a 2 yr old, and as a coming 4 yr old.  Last picture is a Moto Moto sired full blood heifer calf.  Grand Champion Galloway female at 2016 NWSS.

Narrowed my choices to Uno Mas and First N Goal (Angus) both sexed semen available.  Which will add a little frame, improve shoulder (or at least not make it worse), add some hair, and most marketable to sell as replacement show females?

I still think you should flush her reverse sort if you want to maximize the flush for heifer embryos.  Either way, UM or FNG, the heifers you get will be good cows.

Obviously Uno Mas and First N Goal are two different breeds, but look at the EPD's. Those two bulls are on opposite ends of the spectrum for certain traits. I am going to be blunt about it, First N Goals numbers suck, in my opinion. Look at CED, BW, Docility, and $B. I'm not sure why you would want heifers with those kind of numbers. Uno Mas has really good numbers. If you've narrowed it down to those two bulls, in my opinion, Uno Mas would be an easy choice.

I haven't looked into either bulls numbers, but I will interject that for creating replacement heifers more consideration should be placed on CEM than CED/BW. Assuming the embryos aren't going to be put in young cows/heifers I wouldn't pay any attention to CED and as long as BW isn't extreme in either direction, it's mostly irrelevant.
