I do not pretend to be the brightest crayon in the box, but can someone explain the terms below taken from there sale catalog?
Do they pay the expenses of the flush and shipping or are they charging $1000 for expenses and shipping?
Flush Lot Lot #2
Shadybrook will pay all expenses related to this flush and will
deliver the embryos (minimum 6 guaranteed) to a central North
American point. (Payment terms as per flush lot #1).
An amount of $1000 will be added to the purchase price of
this flush to cover all the flush and transportation costs. There
will be a $50 per embryo charge over 6 embryos for freezing
costs. Shadybook will provide semen for this flush on any of
Shadybrook Perfection, DF Pure Gold or Waukaru Patent. Should
the buyer wish to use any other bull, that semen will be for the
buyer’s account.

I shouldn't be talking for Shadybrook, but the way I read this is that if you purchase this flush, you will be charged $1000 above the purchase price, for the flush to be completed as well as the embryos washed and delivered to a central location in North America. If you chose to use Perfection, Pure Gold or Patent, they will provide the semen needed for this flush free.

I think they are offering a pretty good deal here as $1000 is considerably cheaper than I could flush the cow and get the embryos exported and delivered. The USDA import permit and the customs fees and vet fees on both ends, add up quickly. The actual transportation costs are usually quite reasonable.  That is why I always try to send my embryos to the US in a shipment of semen or a tank of embryos, as these costs can be shared and it greatly reduces the costs involved.

I think the extra $1000 is because the Maid cow is in Australia. That's probably the 3 of their bulls they have semen on down there. They could have worded it better but I think that's the difference.

Dan, you are exactly right! I guess it is too early in the morning yet as I did not check which donor the flush was offered on. With that consideration, this then is an extraordinary good deal. The last time I got semen shipped from Australia, I got lucky and was able to get it shipped to Canada in a tank that was being returned to Alta Genetics from Holbrook Breeders Service in Australia. I was not charged anything for the actual shipping as the tank was coming back anyways, but it still cost me over $700 in vet fees, export paperwork, import permits etc. That was a few years ago, so I don't think these costs would be any cheaper.

I think I have a calf coming from the Spry's Maid cow next March. I haven't preg tested yet but I haven't seen the recip return. I have my fingers crossed.

I am sure the Maid cow is a female that would fit into most operations. The 2a heifer calf out of her is another typical Pure Gold, and will make a tremendous cow herself. I really like the lot 33 cow. She looks like what we are trying to produce. Should be a real "Barn Burner" of a sale.

I had a good walk through of the sale calves a couple of weeks ago. There are some excellent show prospects in the group. As usual at Shadybrook, a class act done right.
Did you see the lot 33 cow?

I love the food and wine list at West Aubere. Can someone go to the little village close by and pick me up 2 lbs of butter and 3 lbs of Cheese! Mr Pathy knows what we like- I will gladly repay you at the North American?  ;)
Really... this is the sale you take the friend that might like cattle as much as you? They can shop enjoy the view and eat great french inspired food. The team at Shadybrook  are great cattlemen, the facilities are practical and well cared fo...r it's  a totally great experience for young and old.
