Does anyone here know anything about this bull???  I have been thinking of using him but haven't been able to see any calves out of him.  Thanks

Scotty is a calving ease bull that was a herdsire at Shadybrook as well as a major semen sire around the world. He was used heavily in Australia, New Zealand and several South American countries. Scotty was  very thick and was very easy fleshing. He had lots of guts and capacity. His daughters in the Shadybrook herd are excellent females. I think this is another bull that came slightly ahead of his time. He would have been used a lot more if he arrived on the scene today. Scotty has been used on heifers safely. His calves are easy doing, moderate framed and pretty sound made.

Scotty is out of a tremendously thick, deep sided western Canadian Bred cow. She was also the dam of our HC Merger 93M herd sire.

We have a few Merger daughters and they have excellent udders. This may get some people going but since we have gone back more to the purebred side the last three years I still see way to many poor udders shortys. We have a few females that we purchased in 2006 and at a well known  herd dispersal  in the fall of 07 and are now either going to the can this year or if we need will use for a recip. I have seen how one generation can change for the good and for the bad and that is our goal with our small herd. If bad uddered fermales can skip a generation maybe we should just breed those few cows of ours to a steer bull or send them down the road!!!!

I have seen a number of Scotty daughters in production and they seem to have real nice udders. Coyote, you are correct in saying that Scotty's mother's udder was a little iffy, but it only got that way when she was older. I saw her several times at Shadybrook and it was when she was older than 10 years that she suspension started to go . I think she was 14 years old when she came in open, and Shadybrook decided to flush her in a last ditch attempt to get a couple of daughters from her. She was flushed to Rodeo Drive and produced 21 grade 1 embryos. It was from this flush that I purchased 3 embryos and I got 3 ET calves. One was Merger, and his daughters have near perfect udders.... but then I don't have any that are over 10 years old either. Right now I would say that Merger daughters all have udders as good or better than their mothers. Like I said, the Scotty females I have seen in production have nice tidy udders. He has been used a lot in Australia and the Aussie's like them, and they are super picky on soundness issues.
