I'm breeding a cow in a couple of weeks, what do you think I should use on her? She is out of JB Power Express (a Robinson Boxcar son) and a trump cow. She is all white with just a little red on her ears. She needs some guts added to her. I was debating between TM Gus or Ace of Diamonds. I'm open to any ideas!

Thanks,
Jordan

We are going to use the HD Swagger 802 , Free 4 All Bulls this AI season. But I did AI some cows for Linnette Jane last April to the TM Gus using the heifer sexed semen. But I would go with some color in that snowball

My brother in oklahoma used to own the Robinson Boxcar 602 bull that you speak of. His daughters will produce from most anything. If you are needing more guts, you might shy away from Ace of Diamonds. He works great, but not on shallow built females.Jake might add the depth you need, not sure about Gus,although he is a good bull. You probably need to use some older non clubby genetics on her and keep the heifers, then breed them to most anything.

I may be partial, but Leroy came to mind immediately when I read this thread. He will add guts to all his offspring. I have attached a picture of his mother, so you can see where he gets this from. Also, John Hagie ( Cyclone Trace) in Iowa, has recently added several embryos from Sparkle, as well as a daughter who topped the Fever sale in Olds, AB last week. Leroy will also add structural soundness if you need that. He is now 8 years old and moves like a cat. He walks from morning to night and still stays in excellent condition. He bred over 60 females this summer and came in from pasture in better shape than when he went out.

Semex International has the world rights in Leroy, and semen is handled by several other semen distributors in the US as well. He is the highest selling Shorthorn sire that Semex has sold, and he is marketed in close to 100 countries.

How about the Canadian bull WOLF WILLOW MAJOR LEROY,his calves look good and sell well up here.

I had the opportunity to see the bull Off Road out of Wolf Willow at the Ohio Beef Expo. He was pretty moderate framed thick and great hairy. He was sound and very mature in his development. Plenty of rib and shape. That might be an interesting bull to give a try.

Maybe put Lccc Qs Proud Augustus 707 on your list of considerations. Moderate, thick, red, bred to white will induce a good raon, his first hiefer sold well at Little Cedar sale....a bit of linebreeding too to help fix the type of cattle you like to produce... he's at Semex

I think the Major LeRoy bull would probably work good on that particular cow. I have seen a few of his calves that are too round in their make up though. As a whole I think he sires great calves. i watched Ace of Diamonds being born, was there the day before Vogel's bought him,and he is a great bull that is starting to prove himself in the show ring. The real proof will come with his daughter's becoming matrons.don't use him on shallow bodied cows. He also doesn't downsize calves. This bull, in my opinion will be a superstar when his daughters, coming from great bred cows are old enough to produce. I would not hesitate to say that he probably would do wonders for some ,well lets just say, not so good cows.

off road did  not look like a heifer bull to me or moderate. I am 5 feet tall and as a yearling his hip was over my shoulder- try Gus or any thing else

well I am defiantely partial, but I think i would try Leroy or maybe Ivy League.  We think Ivy League will defiantely moderate and add softness to them.  He is about a 5.5 frame and plenty soft sided.  His momma is running on grass and at 13 weighs close 1800 lbs in a 4.5 frame.  Shes a definate ground sow.  He also should add some color to the white heifer so you could hopefully get some red neck roans that sell so well.

So I am breeding this cow again and need some help! Here is a picture of her and her calf 2 years ago. I am thinking about breeding her to either Amen or Eye Candy. What do you guys think?
