Hello.  I would like to know if you guys have any information on calves sired by Shorthorn bull called Jake’s Sergeant of Jazz.  I bought my granddaughter a heifer by this bull and really disappointed in the lack of growth from this calf.  Any information would be appreciated.

I didn’t get to see the dam, but my son said she is a “moderate” size cow. Maybe a 5 to 6 frame size.

Mark,
The picture of the heifer is at 7 mos.  She may be a tad larger now.  I was hoping to get a heifer similar to the one on the top-left of your Facebook page.
Thanks

She was a Free For All out of a 14-1500 pound cow but probably a year in that picture. She bacame a very moderate cow slightly larger than a jazz-at 7 months she was probably a little larger than yours, but allways more moderate than those in her classses at shows.. The young lady who showed her was petite -probably not much taller than the young lady at the halter of your heifer-I am honored by the way  that you liked my heifer-unfortunately she died hung up in a bale feeder due to the absolute negligence of the people who had her-They couldnt be bothered to check cows or have someone have a look while they were out. She had 2 daughters which I never heard about again. I live too far away or I would have had an attorny give him a call. Thats her mother at 12 years of age O0.

Sorry to hear that such an animal died like she did.  I will be thrilled if my granddaughter’s finishes as your heifer did.  I may be fooling myself thinking that could happen since your heifer was out of a larger cow.  I think we will feed her and show for what she is until we know for sure that she just isn’t going to have the needed size.  We also have a I 90 heifer to show that has the possibility of doing well.  Thank you for your help.

It will be some time before this one gets bred, but would you mind suggesting a bull with proven low birth weights?  I have searched myself and would like to breed her to a Shorthornif possible.  I know about Jesse James, Witch Doctor, and several other black bulls.

Thanks for the help Mark.  The kids are going to take her to the Houston Junior Livestock show this week.  We’ll see how she does.  I’ll keep the list of sires that you shared.
