Thought I'd post a few pics... these are all sale bulls from a number of places.
Interested to hear people's thoughts!

Now that is cool. I like the bdb bull, looks like a stud for me. the d002 bull looks like a female maker. lot 7 is cool and chemo catches my eye. Always neat to see new shorthorns. Anxious to read the breeding behind them.

I am always impressed with many of the bulls I see in the Aussie Shorthorn breed magazine. There are some pretty impressive bulls pictured here as well. There are four bulls here that I think are serious herd sires, and they are probably more if I could see them in person. Some day, hopefully before long, I want to get to Oz. I have so many friends over there and I always appreciate their thoughts on cattle of any breed. Finding the 2-4 weeks that would be required to do a decent job of seeing the great herds down there is always the problem. Toby Jordan recently told me that the 10 days that his wife and him spent seeing Aussie Shorthorns was far too short a time period and was a bit draining.

Not to change this thread, but I see that Gillian and David Leeds are dispersing their Broome herd in early November. That is a herd that has been around for a long time and I expect there will be a great set of cattle in that sale.

I personally like the d002 bull, he's the 2nd to last one. Looks like he could make some really good females.

From the photos I think I like 1, 2, 6 and 9. Now you need to give us the pedigrees and prices!

Is the one bull Kookaburra?  I had three heifer calves by him this year.  They are pretty good calves.  The only draw back was that all three have a bit more white on them than their mothers

One of the bulls is indeed Kookaburra himself, aged two years. It's the pic from the sale catalogue and doesn't do him justice at all.
He does throw the odd white spot depending on the cow, but that's merely cosmetic. The quality of the calves should speak for themselves.
Which one did you think was Kookaburra?

Linchpin's EBV's (a bit different to EPD's) are:

CE (direct) -6.7
CE (daughters) +3.9
BW  +4.6
200 day +28
400 day +53
600 day +61
Scrotal +3
Carcase weight +41
EMA +7.2
Rib fat -0.4
Rump fat -0.8
RBY +2
IMF +0.4

He's a bit higher birthweight but explosive growth and carcase traits.

To see our breed average EBV's, go to http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2323&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A

I was pretty sure the 8th picture was Kookaburra.  Here is a picture of one of my Kookaburra's.  I was really hoping he would have darkened the cow down a bit, but Andy visited the herd last year and I showed him this heifer's mother and he said Kookaburra could possibly throw a light roan calf.  Kookaburra's grandmother or sister to the dam or something was light roan.  I guess he was right.  The other two calves are red with just a few white spots.

She looks like a really good heifer, thanks for posting her pic as I was trying to decide if I should flush our 55G cow to him and now I think it will make an awesome cross! (thumbsup)

I'm slow I guess. Is the 8th pic Kookaburra? I have never heard of the bull. Whats the story if you don't mind? As well as Deerhorn Cruickshank? Whatever the breeding I think number 8 would work awful good for me judging from the pics. Cool thread mate!

Number 8 is Kookaburra. Without any specific quesitons on him to answer, here's a link to his pedigree and EBVs http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=313021&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5C255B5A2658252F24&9=5F5E5A

You'll see he is a low birth, high growth bull with great carcase characteristics. He's also a trait leader for gestation length, carcase weight, eye muscle area and intramuscular fat. And he has enough calves for the data and very high accuracies.

I think I've posted some pics of his calves before. I can attest to the fact that the calves come quickly and easily, and grow real fast. They have awesome shape and carcases. He's one of the safest bulls I could think of.
