Bull selling season is getting underway down here. We just brought this guy, think he will add a few things we are looking for and maybe a couple of things just to watch. Appreciate  any comments on what you see.

He looks like well built bull.  What is his frame size?

No one really does frame scores here so probably not that accurate but I would guess around a 6. Would hope his females will mature at about 1450

Pedigree and breeder details? Looks to have a nice head, not too long and woodpecker like!

Thanks for commenting. Been to a few sales since and still think we got the right bull for what we want which is good. The annoying thing about cattle breeding is its such a long time to get calves then get them into production to actually know if you have anything.

Good bull, really like his masculinity and flat bone structure.  A lot of times when you see a bull with that much bone it tends to be more round and coarse.  He oughta sire some stout functional calves for you.

huntaway, I keep thinking about your bull because I like him so much. He has a very classic look. He resembles some old Native bulls in general conformation and head shape, although I know he isn't Native. I think Theodore qualifies for Native status, though.
I have been trying to find photos of Rungahiwi cattle, but have not had good luck. What was your bull's dam like? What particularly interests you about him and made you want to use him?
To me, he has something in common with a bull rn reed raised a few years ago, 108's Cherry Magnet...I thought that bull had an old time kind of Haumont look (second picture)
And then a couple antiques that I just realized have the same build and head as your bull. (What I see, anyway)...these two bulls in the black and white photos are real favorites of mine and I guess that's why my curiosity keeps circling back to your bullThanks for putting up his picture and good luck with him.

Thanks for commenting Xbar and Librarian.

The Rungahiwi herd was dispersed over 10 years ago, I wouldn't think there would be many photos online.

His Dam is a major reason we were interested in him. She was Alan Parks favourite cow in the Corsock herd who had only had heifers and has retained them all. He says she was a very easy doing cow with volume that could produce on very step hill country. Unfortunately she was lost to a badly cut foot in an accident.

We were particularly after his volume. not sure the photo shows it but he has great depth and chest volume. He has good fat cover and a real fleshy look on good feet. EBV wise his BWT is slightly above breed ave which Im ok with strong growth and acceptable carcass data. Only hole is his IMF.

Really nice bull! Looks to be pretty wide based and smooth enough. I love that he has that shot of Theodore in him, but he's still very much a meat machine. It'll be interesting to see what you get for calves out of him.  (thumbsup)
