Does anyone ever sell show boxes? How much do used ones usually go for?

My experience has been that most all used show equipment usually sells for near new price so most of the time you are better off buying new.

Old codgers like me are selling out all the time, and the motive is to get rid of things, regardless of loss.  I kept both Show Boxes because I can always use more storage space.  Forget what Mike says, the used stuff goes cheap!  You just have to find the folks who have no use for it any more.

If you know of people that just want to get rid of show equipment regardless of loss please pass the info on to the people here on the Planet....I am sure lots of people would be very interested.

If you are looking for a 200 pound showbox that someone made in their garage or a 400 pound steel chute that someone made in shop class I am sure you could find a deal but if you are looking for a nice blower, an alluminum chute or decent fans the chances of finding them at half price are close to zero in my expereince.  Most stuff seems to sell at about 75 to 85% of new price.  Look at all of the people that post in the classifieds looking for used equipment and look how fast most things sell when posted...most at a discount but not what I would consider cheap.

Not trying to argue, just stating a point.  If you search long and hard enough, you can find great deals on just about anything.  I cleared out most of our Show Equip. this Summer, and posted it here on SP.  Several of my sales came through SP.  But, most of the people who finished showing in the 90s, and still have equipment taking up space, don't know anything about SP.

Check craigslist and ebay.  If you wait long enough you'll usually see something.  However, if you need it and need it by a certain time, you are better to just buy it new.
