We feed an economical ration mixed by a local feed mill. It is 46%corn, 16%oats 3% barley, 6% cotton seed hulls, 4%molasses, 17% of a locally manufactured 32%protein consentrate and some Bovateck. Last year this ration was $10 dollars per hundred cheaper than a complete show feed. My sons calves gained well on it. This year he raised all but one of his calves so, he has more money to spend on feed. If we have a calf get too fat we pull them out of the pen and feed less of the ration with some beet pulp. Calves get one flake of hay per head per day.Mineral is feed free choice every day. What would you add or change to add more daily gain? Keep in mind that we are trying to keep this an economical ration to make a profit. We will not change our protein concentrate or mineral program as we have used this on thousands of head in my dad's feed lot with great success. I would feed more barley but it is expensive in our area. What do you think of calf manna ,yeast wheat bran? I am open to any other suggestions.
