With the recent outbreak of brucellosis in Montana would anyone be leary of showing cattle, specifically bulls, in this state? We have several bulls we were thinking of shoing at the NILE in Billings but have been warned it's probably not safe to take non-vaccinated cattle.  All our heifers are vaccinated, of course, and our state requires all females be vaccinated between 4-11 months, so that shouldn't be an issue.  And bulls are required to test negative of brucellosis prior to entering Montana.

Would you go or pass?

I'd go, Nancy.  I believe all cattle coming into MT, the NILE, will have to be tested negative for Brucellosis.  I know Melanie is planning on going in with some cattle from Michigan but the regs for getting them in to MT are tight.  You might contact the Montana State Veterinarian's office for specifics or maybe the NILE has them posted on their website.

It's going to depend on what state you're coming from. We're in ND and are in the same situation right now. My understanding is that everything must have a negative test for TB/Bangs/Brucellosis before getting off the trailer in Billings. Bulls over 12 months of age may also require a Trich test, depending on breed and health requirements. If you're planning on purchasing anything, that animal must come from a herd that has had a negative test for the entire herd within the past 9-12 months. Check www.thenile.org for the latest requirements for entry.

Why don't you just skip the NILE & bring some cattle on down to the NAILE?    ;)  Yes, I do realize that is a bit unrealistic coming all the way from Washington.

I do want to mention that unless something drastic changes, it looks like I'll be taking 3 red Bluey's to the NAILE.  1 Bull & 2 heifers.

Sounds like Bluey will be well-represented at the NAILE ( (clapping).  We've got a few calves we'd like to get out and there's not much around here in Washington. The bull calves are within the same age group so it may be 'challenging', to say the least.  Right now I'm planning on fitting myself, so it could be very interesting. There is alot of great tips on this website, and I spend alot of time reading and gathering information. We're planning on bringing quite a few Bluey calves to Denver.
