it's common beginner thought to switch sides when showing sheep...  always keep the lamb b/w you and the judge... rediculous...  Do you switch sides when showing cattle?  no... Don't switch sides showing lambs either.

wow i have several of em...

showing...
makeup on a 9yr old girl.
older girls pouring out of their shirts. (good for a bar, not good for a show ring)
crazy calves that get loose from kids that don't know how to act around animals.
not using the entire show ring and putting young kids in holes because they have better calves.
kids that throw fits because they get beat when they are "suppose to win".

Fitting/clipping...
1986 style baboon ass on a salebarn calf.
not pulling the leg all the way to the hoof.
sail boat tail heads.
pulling a calf into a chute and locking its head instead of tieing it the propper way because they don't know how to tie a halter.

i can go on and on....

Ok now I know what you mean i'vev shown lambs for 3 years at my county fair and we always change side to keep the lamb between the judge and the showman. I've never seen any body switch sides while showing cattle. I'll keep that in mind, I have shown dairy feeders for 5 years and never seen showman switch sides. But as I said I'll keep that in  mind. good info

That's b/c your not supposed to switch sides... <band>

with cattle, the showman is to move their body position in order to give the judge a better view of the animal when it is needed.

kinda like when a judge is walking around and in between the cattle.

as a judge..

i don't want to see

butt cracks (on either sex)
hats
tons of bling (on girls)
tennis shoes
mom/ dad lead the animal to the ring with the exhibitor walking alongside

old wooden canes for hogs.
goat exhibitors showing without a chain- (like a sheep)

ringmen that don't do any help, just get in the way

let me think on...

i hate watching kids who don't know how to run the show stick or not being able to hold a calf's head up. and when i walk through the barns, i want ot see the kids fitting not all these guys who are out of 4-H doing all the work. Win on your own, lose on your own.

At our county fair not switching sides while showing a lamb will throw you right to the bottom of your showmanship class

yes, and it's also different with each judge... From what I have found, breeding stock sheep people prefer not to switch, club lamb people are about half and half, and judges who don't raise currently, or never have... think that you need to switch.
