Having a heck of a time with our 4-H steer. Having a issue when pull his back left leg up for the profile stance. He won't put any weight on it. He will let us pull it forward but he stands there with the tip of his hoof touching the ground. His leg isn't hurt. He walks fine. Need to somehow get him to shift some weight to that leg. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I usually just draw their focus to another leg. Tap their front leg just enough to draw their focus to it, but not so much that they move it.

Get him used to walking into that offset stance when appropriate.  Other wise just pick up a front foot.  They have to put weight on at least three so when that front foot is up he will settle in on that rear foot for you.
Good luck!

Thank you both very much.  We try and stop him right when his left rear is coming forward and planted. Its just to far forward at that time. He literally places his rear hoof in the same place his front hoof left from. When we try and adjust the prob I described starts. Going to try and pick up one of the fronts like you said and see. Will let you know what happens. Thanks again!! Very knowledgeable and helpful ppl here

I teach my kids to walk them into the stance by watching the front feet.  When you stop them on the front left coming down, they should be perfect.  The kids turn and walk the last one to two steps backward so they can stop the calf at the right time.  With practice the calves start anticipating the stop and will stop perfect on their own!

Thanks alot. Made a lil progress today. We stop him like you stated SlickTxMaine but the prob we're having is he doesn't plant the left rear all the way down. I know they typically don't put ALL their weight on the left rear thats pulled up but his looks like the leg is dangling there. Like he's standing on 3 legs. When he's walking he plants it fine. We continue to keep working him like yall said. Thanks for the input

Slightly use your show stick to push on the other foot. Not enough to move it, but hard enough to make him think he is going to have to move it, this will make him shift his weight into that foot. You will be able to tell when your pushing hard enough because you will literally see him shift his weight
