whats the best procedure for doing this. we will weigh in Monday august 10th and our calf is in the 1400+ area and we want to lose as much of that as possible. I want you to be very descriptive in your replies. if we can get this calf to 1330-1360 we could stand a very very good chance at winning.

Do you have a weigh back?  RW

?

i just know Monday 8 am is the only weight that matters. thats the weight they use in the show 2 days later.

he was 850 back in December and they do a rate of gain thing from that day

i can get a hold of some green alfalfa to let him run out #1 and #2 and then hold water for a day

With hold feed for 48 hrs and water for 24 hrs. Start him back on feed and water slowely - don't let him gorge on either one, I fed about half beet pulp the first few feedings. Also be liberal with the probios prior to, during and after you with hold feed. High fiber, low calorie diet with limited water should do it.RW

Zach,

PM me and I can give you the regimen to get at least 100 off of him without draining him and you can still fill him back up easily,  YOU MUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!

Zach,
If you veer from this to add anything else, I can't be responsible for the results.  Vitamin L has gotten some in trouble in the past.  You must be careful!

I don't think advising any junior member to use Vitamin L is wise.  Remember this is a junior fair show that is for slaughter and they will test.  Is it worth the few moments of winning in the ring for the years of disgrace afterwards for being thrown out?  Not hardly!  Good  cattle people need to stay that way!  Lets encourage our youth to do it the legal way.

This will work great, you're only wanting to take off 40-60 and that can be done easily.

I didn't see anywhere where he said it was going to kill right after fair.  Unless they do tests at their fair he could be well within the rules by using it.

are you walking him?  my brother had a steer that he had to get weight off of...he walked that boy a mile at least every day for 2 weeks before the fair...and that mile was up and downhills...down the hill to the scale house(weigh him) and back up to the barn...he got him down  to 1320 for weigh ins...and held feed and water...after the show(3 days later) he ran him back across the scales just out of curiosity and he was back up to 1380....oh, he won grand champion that year too...
