Simmental bulls

I'm thinking about getting some of my cattle AIed for next year and I was wondering about some simmental bulls. I've been looking at SVF/NJC Mo Better M217 and HTP SVF In Dew Time. I really like Mo Better because he looks good and has a white face and I've heard good things about In Dew Time.

Has anyone used these bulls before? How are they on birthweight and how do the calves look? Also, do you have any other recommendations on good black simmental bulls?

I want to breed 3 heifers and 2 cows who had 1 calf so far. 1 of the heifers is a smokey commercial heifer (angus x simmental x charolais) and the other two heifers are PB black simmes (both are MT bull x Black Jet). The two cows are PB simmentals too. (MT bull x Black Jet and MT bull x Cadillac). I can post some pictures too, if it helps.

We have a In Dew Time calf out of a first calf heifer. Birth weight was low she had it with no problem. He's 3 months old. He's ok.

Both are good bulls. I've seen good cattle from both bulls. In Dew Time has better numbers as far as being a heifer bull but Mo Better will also work. I've used both.

i'm thinking along the lines of... in dew time,.. steel force, ...ranchhand, and sherrif taylor ( 3/4 )..( which i alreday have in the tank)...but the pb simmi is still up in ther air.... i like steel force prbally the best ...but the sexed semen option of in dew time is hard for me to pass up on with the "futures" side of this season for me.................jbarl

I forgot to add.. we are using In Dew Time on most of our commercial heifers next spring.

The overhyped Steel Force semen is pretty hard to come by. Just saw some for $300 a straw.

The overhyped Steel Force semen is pretty hard to come by. Just saw some for $300 a straw.

It's pretty popular to call the bulls they promote as "overhyped", but I recently walked around in the pen with Steel Force giving him a good look over and I've never seen a better looking mature bull in regards to all the things "we" say on here a real bull should look and move like. I haven't used him myself but I did see some brand new babies out of him out of Angus cows and that bull calf that is in the Exposure sale this weekend. He and his offspring look the part to me. I doubt the semen brings that much this weekend from what I was told, but we'll see. More is supposed to be for sale during Denver.

Hmm..

I wouldn't suggest either. I would go with Mo Town(Mo Better's full brother) I'veused both and both work well on heifers but Mo Town adds a little more bone and power.. but the Mo Better's aren't bad.

In Dew Time I would just stay away from period.......<<s

Ranchhand..Just stay away from..personal experience on that one too...

All in all I would vary slightly from the original choices and use Mo Town instead of Mo Better.. You're also not getting any Dream On which in my humble opinion is a good thing.

I looked him up and he looks impressive. I might just have to use him. Do you think he would cross well with MT grand daughters?

We've never used any relation to Dream On so far. I know some people I show against do though so it would be keeping it interesting if we stayed away from him. ;D

I think he would be excellent crossed with MT.. What other bloodlines are in the cow side? I didn't know how you felt about Dream On.. I have a few Dream On daughters(2) but that's it..Have had horrible luck with Dream Ons and offspring getting bred and have even had to sell/send back a few because of infertillity issues. Therefore we try to stay away from everything Dream On if possible...

I think this would probably be his first year in use, but what about Sheriff Taylor. Looks as though he might have a chance with his genetics.

I added pictures too. They were taken back in September before RH1 and SG72 calved.

All the PB simmentals were about of a MT x Hartblack Reward bull and 3 of them (RH1, TL1, TM83) came from Black Jet cows (Black Jet was sired by Circle S Leachman). The other one came from a CCR Cadillac cow (SG72).
The smokey heifer (TP3) is all crossbred. Her dam was a charolais x simmental and her sire was an unregistered angus.

I'll have to look up Sheriff Taylor too. Thank you.

Are most vets good at AI? I've put in CIDRs but I've never AIed.

Most vets in my area are not good at AI. I would talk to the rep that you buy the semen from & see if they know of an AI tech in your area.

We really like the In Dew Times calves, they calve easy and grow well. We will prob use In Dew Time on all of our Non Dream On heifers again this coming breeding season. The Trademark bull is producing some really nice calves as well.

I think MO Town would click very well with all of them but especially the Baldy.. Just what I would do even though I'm sure you'd like to stay with using one bull and these are outside of your listed
