We have a Star Power Heifer that is 3/4 SM 1/8 CA 1/8 AN.  Do they typically have to be 100%  to show registered?  We also have a Foundation class at our state fair.  She is papered.  We show in MN.

You'll need to check with your state association. In Texas they have to be 15/16 to show as a PB, but I know in neighboring states such as Arkansas and Oklahoma(I think) they can show as a PB if they are 3/4 or more. A 3/4 can also show as a PB at nationals, and anything less shows as a percentage.

:)))  (TS- You're not stupid, I just wanted to use this because it is cute and I agree with you!!) At our fair, they have to be over 3/4, but at our expo show, they can be 3/4 and still show as PB. I have also been to shows that don't allow anything under 5/8! You will just have to check!

I agree with the rest..  check the rules.    It varies in our state from show to show... at one show a 3/4 might show as a PB and at another the same heifer would show as a %.

Ah, but this is a common misconception. Here is a direct quote from the ASA website National rules
"Percentage Heifer Competition
1. All general rules will apply to the Percentage competition;
i.e. ownership, participant age, fitting.
2. Heifers must be at least 50% Simmental but not purebred
status (7/8)
and have been born after August 31, 2009, and
prior to March 15, 2011. They must be registered with the
American Simmental Association."

So, 3/4 bloods at the nationals are still shown as percentages.I know there was talk about once again changing the status at the American Simmental Association, going back to calling a 3/4 blood a purebred, but there are a lot of people against this. So, to answer your question, you need to ask the individual fair/event to find out how your heifer will classify.

I think that the ASA has it very clearly laid out so the problem as I see it is why all the other shows & organizations don't just use the same criteria.  I was checking the rules for a show we are thinking about and see that  to show as a PB, they have to be at least 87.5%.  What is that? 7/8?  I believe that anything over 76% has PB simmental papers.. talk about confusing.

Exactly! It would be so much easier if all the shows would just use "ASA rules".
:)))  Well, it must make too much sense! At least for around where I am!  ;)

Thanks for your "nice" comments but I got my answer.  Had previously looked in our State Fair premium book and did not give percentage only stated must be 50% for steer class but found out must be 3/4 blood or better.
