When evaluating simmi show heifers (purebred), how much is too much brisket?  Does it matter if she is put together nicely from brisket on back?  Let me know what I should be looking for.

The cleaner the better, just look at a lot of briskets if it sways its probably a lil heavy on the brisket fat.

Simmi's are natural a little heavier fronted. It's just a breed characteristic. Usually the clean fronted one's don't have enough power, and the powerful one's aren't clean fronted. If she's a tank with tons of power she should be a little heavy fronted. If she's not buy her and get ready to win nationals.

when i am judging, there are plenty of things to look at before the brisket..  if they don't have the other peices, it doesn't matter if the brisket is the size of an aligator, or as clean as a whistle.

Great point!  I have a donor who is a tank!  If I was going to change anything about her I would say she is a little bit heavy fronted, but I like everything she puts together from her brisket back, so I don't dock her on it and her calves get better and better.

Best of luck on your Simmental show heifer.  My first show heifer was a Simmental because my neighbor raised them, I have had Simmental cattle every since.

My donor is like that too..when I showed her, the judges appreciated the power, but faulted her on her front. That's just how Simmis are. ;D

Good luck!
