Does anyone have any calves on the ground or seen any calves by the Simmy bull Uno Mas?  I was talking with my Select Sires rep about him the other day.  I'm not a simmy breeder but I was thinking of trying him on a few Angus cows.

I have some calves by Uno Mas the clubby bull. Don't know of a simmi bull by that name.

Me personally, I wouldn't be keen on using him on my Angus based cows. He has Dream On and Goldmine in his pedigree and both are not bulls I would use on Angus.

I'm not really familiar with Simmental bloodlines...so, why do you say this?

Dream On and definitely not Goldmine don't work well on Angus cows. Goldmine throws some fancy calves with absolutley no muscle to them which most Angus don't need cause they already have that covered. Dream On is kind of the same way as Goldmine just not as drastic. Got to be a powerhouse cow (which most Angus are not) for those 2 to work the best. That's why both are better when bred to PB simmy cows who typically need to be fancier. Both bulls have their place and throw good calves but Angus cows aren't what made them famous. Dream On was proably bred to thousands of Angus cows and I've seen very few Dream On halfbloods out of Angus cows that were very good. Never seen good Goldmine halfblood unless it was out of clubby breeding.

Purdue had a smokin good red blaze halfblood Uno Mas in the Hoosier Beef Congress simmi sale out of a commercial simangus cow.  She was my pickof the sale heifers of any breed.  Super soft, plenty of muscle, and a really cool look.

I'm curious about this bull too.  Have to agree with the post on Goldmine.  Some of our best purebred cows are out of him but I AI'd a couple open commercial hfrs to him 2 yrs ago and was a little disappointed.
