We've used plenty of Upward, as have most PB breeders.  No surprises.  They will calve easy, grow like crazy, have OK structure (can have funky tailheads).  They get big.  If that's not you're thing, he's not the bull for you.  The bull calves will have loads of testicle development and the females will have nice udders with lots of milk.  His progeny are poorly suited for low-input operations however.  RFI and DMI are very poor for Upward and his progeny.  Crossing him on Duff bred cattle may balance those traits out enough to be acceptable.

I have found he worked very well on Vermillion Dateline cows.  If you notice the sons of his that Genex markets are mostly off of Dateline cows as well.

I'd say yes they are big enough boned and deep enough sided.  Couple of pics for you below.  Mature bull is an Upward son we are using off of a Dateline cow.  Love him and his calves.  Calves pictured are both upward sired.
