What is better. Some people tell me to use dish soap while others tell me shampoo. The dish soap I thinnk would be hard on the hair since it is gresse fighting and would take the oils out, but shampoo would be really heavy. The sullivan stuff is what i like but it is pricey!

I use the dish soap (Joy) because it's cheap and easy to get . It washes out easily and works fine. However you are correct, it will take some of those natural oils out of the skin and hair. We combat this with the daily use of  some sort of sheen (Kleen Sheen). Also, I would recomend that you not use soap daily on your cattle. Just blow them out and rinse daily. We might use soap once a week at the most at home.

In my experience, the dishsoap does stiffen and dry out their hair.  So, we use Suave shampoo which is usually pretty cheap at like the dollar stores.  I also recommend using conditioner as it makes a HUGE difference in the hair quality.  Even just rinsing with conditioner is GREAT!  However, we do like to use dishsoap right after a show to help wash out all of the oil and glue.  That really seems to help.

If you have a Dollar General or a discount store, you can buy VO5 and WHite Rain shampoo for 87 cents a bottle. It is the cheapest for everyday use. When we go to shows we use EZ All becasue it is pricey. Dish soap will remove the natural oils and you have to replace those with something after that will condition hair and skin like Revive.

There is a concentrated shampoo that I put in the foamer called corona shampoos. It comes in a gallon jug like the ezall and works very well, and it will last 3 times as longs as a gallon of ezall..and its half the price. My next choice is ezall...i love that stuff. I wouldnt put anything in my cattles hair that I wouldnt put  in mine..so dish soap is out of the question.

I would much rather use some cheap sauve shampoo over dish soap. Maine and tail is a good conditioner, I use a conditioner that I pick up at Sally's by the gallon, and its only like 10 bucks or so.

We just use the suave conditioner.  We squirt some in a bucket, fill it with water and then dump/splash it on the calf.  We wait a few minutes, then mist it out.  Works wonders.

Dish soap will take the natural oils out of the hair. I use it because it is cheap and easy and I replace the oil content in the hair and condition the hair with my homebrew as well. You can also use revive if you don't mind paying the price. RW
