We use the ez foamer. Then mix a tsb of vinegar in a bucket of water and pour on them after they are rinsed out. It helps with any soap residue and also helps the hair.

i use suave Mens for my steer because it smells good and doesn't cost as much as the big brands. i think it works just as good. for my heifers i use VO5 because it smells feminine and moisturizes and strengthens the hair.

We have calves constantly going through the barn, usually they might stay 4 weeks before we find a buyer. So at any one time we will have our two show animals and maybe 2 or 3 that are getting halter broken and getting used to the wash rack. So we go through a lot of soap. I like to use the lemon Joy or Ajax lemon soap through the EZ foamer because i can buy a gallon of it for like 10 bucks, not only is this used to wash calves, but feed pans and water tubs. The wash rack, truck and trailer will usually get washed with the same soap and foamer, so yea i pretty much use it for everything. I dont really look at soap as a hair conditioner, thats what the infusion23 and vinegar are for, the soap is just used to get the dirt out.

We use sullivans clear choice, ez all, or dawn. Normally dawn we use only ion the legs on show days to cut the oil so the adhesive works better.

EQ Solution. It's expensive at $20/gallon, but it's worth every single dollar. It's made for horses, but its starting to catch on with show cattle people. You need a foamer to use it. You spray it on the calf dry. Yes, DO NOT rinse the calf before soaping it. Soap, scrub, rinse, then soap again and let it dry. Yes, you let the soap dry on them. I honestly couldn't believe it until I tried it. Your calves will have unbelievably healthy hair like never before. Dish soap is the worst thing you can use. It dries the hair and skin out plus has all kinds of chemicals that aren't healthy for their hair. The most important part is leaving it on them and letting it completely dry before you start working their hair. It will also make their hair shine unlike anything else. I couldn't believe it until I tried it, and I'll never use anything else again. I would encourage everyone to try it at least once.

I've seen EQ but not used in in this manner.  But, I'm confused.  You actually wash, then rinse, then wash again and let the stuff dry on the calf?  I would think you would have to wet them down again to work the hair.  Cant really start with flat dry hair.  Or can you?????

You spray it on them while their dry, and unless they have mud caked onto their hair your not even going to need to scrub them. Then you rinse them clean, then you take your foamer and spray them with soap again. You can visibly see the soap on them and when it dries(disappears; the calf will still be wet) you can start blowing and combing.

joy or ajax works just fine as long as you rinse them out good it wont do anything to hurt their hair. then when your done you can just put the mane & tail or infusion 23 in a bucket & mix it with water & pour over them. you dont really need to spend a bunch of money on the name brand stuff

I use the VO5 dry scalp shampoo because it’s so cheap and I love it! The only place I have luck finding it is at the Dollar Tree. I usually go and grab about 10 bottles for about $10. (Can’t beat that) The reason I use the dry scalp formula is to prevent dandruff and help with any they may have. It also works in the foamer, you have to add a little water to thin it out a little for it to work.
