Has anyone heard what this bull's calves are like? Or that his semen has now jumped to $100?

Don't think there are any on the ground just yet.  If there are it is just a few of them.  I have heard demand for semen is high, but have not heard of the price jump.

Solid Gold does not have any calves on the ground yet, and semen went up because he died about a week ago. HOWEVER, I was at brandon horns place today and he has three clones to him that are going to be collected in a couple weeks. As soon as that happens semen will go back down to around $30 a straw.

PS these clones blew me away, i have personally never seen a bull combine that much bone with that much shear power, along with style and a look to burn, and plenty of hair.

Is solid gold the clone to the steer that won houston a few years back? I saw his picture in houston last year at bovine elite.

No. The bulls name was Houston.

I know of that bull as well, but at houston they were saying they had a clone to that same steer named solid gold, they were giving out flyers with his picture on it, very attractive bull. I will have to see if I still have it.

I'd like to see a picture of him. If you can find it.

This may be a stupid question but why did he die and does that have anything to do with the clone thing.  Really nice bull though i would have liked to have seen him over his top.  Looks like a powerful massive structured dude.  Looks like he has alot more rid depth and shape than the Lautner bull Houston.  I would definitly like to see calves.  He mite work on so cows thai have.

I don't know anything about this bull specifically, but "crap" happens to bulls pretty easily.  We run enough of them and it seems like we lose one or two every year to freak injuries or something.  I know lots of people get suspicious when AI bulls die, but more often that not its just luck of the draw.  I bet it didn't have a thing to do with him being a clone.  Was this bull actually a clone or is he just a full sib?

There are multiple clones of that steer.  Houston is Lautner's, Solid Gold is Horn's as well as several more that have yet to be named.

Brandon did not really know why he died, I think they are running some test to find out but  do not know for sure yet. There are multiple clones of that calf for security obviously, but seeing them in person sold me.....very impressive.

That is correct, Houston and solid Gold are both clones of the same steer. I saw Solid Gold 6 this last weekend and he was very similar to what Houton looked like the year that he came out. I don't think that there were ever very many Houston calves. He never froze to my knowledge. Kroupa leasted him late in the season to clean up cows, but I don't think Greg ever got too many calves either. There was another one of the clones in @ Hawkeye the last time I stopped in, but I liked #6 way better if it makes a bit of difference.

Excellent question ohio cattle guy. I would think so but technically I don't know? Isn't there something in the bible about"Beasts were being cloned and the wrath of god was forced down apon them". Maybe that was Saturday Night Live....anyway.

the same thing happened to Indian Outlaw., He Croaked about a week ago, now his semen went up about $30.  But nobody knows what his calves are going to turn out to be, because he doesn't have any on the ground.
