Here is video of Mandalong Super Flag

http://www.browarny.com/legacy/video/clip27.html

There are several lines of bulls originating in Western Canada that descend in the paternal line from Manadalong Super Flag. Mandalong Super Flag was born in Australia in 1971 and imported to Canada in 1972 by Gary and Terry Carter, Newbiggon Shorthorns. Super Flag was a Grand Champion at the Denver  National Western Stock Show. In Canada Super Flag had a huge influence.
The one line was the Eionmor Ideals. They descend from Mandalong Super Flag through Miami Flag 10G, Winalot Big Mac, Lanalta Whiteout. Whiteout was the sire of the Ideals. The one son Eionmor Ideal 69F was a very well muscled bull. He in turn sired Muridale Buster 14K, Eionmor Ideal 4M, Eionmor Ideal 25M, Eionmor Ideal  61M and Eionmor Ideal 50P. Muridale Buster 14K sired Muridale Buster  2nd 76P plus innumerable others. 4M sired Six S Samson 25S and Six S Ranger 12R. Eionmor Ideal 50P was a senior sire at Eionmor and a son Eionmor Ideal 82T is now in service. The Buster and Ideal 61M are definitely calving ease lines.
Another sire line descending from Flag through Eionmor are the Eionmor Mr. Gus bulls. Flag sired Crowfoot Flag, sire of the Gafa Mochican bull used at Eionmor for several years. There he sired Eionmor Mr. Gus 30B, Eionmor Mr Gus 80C, Eionmor Mr Gus 85C, Eionmor Mr Gus 58F. The Eionmor Highlanders were sons of 80C. Another 80C son was Glenford Gus 4H in turn the sire of Star P Matrix a popular sire first at Butterfield’s and then at Horseshoe Creek and ACC Cattle in Saskatchewan. Also by 80C are Studers Pretender 96th and TM Gus 36S.
Still a third line was the Ultra line. Flag sired Crestdale Super Flag 14G a high selling bull at the Regina Bull sale. 14G sired Manitoba Sunrise used at Saskvalley and Huberdale.  A son of Manitoba Sunrise was Butterfield Ultramarine used at Eionmor where he sired Eionmor Ultra 8C the sire of Eionmor Ultra 88G. In turn 88G sired the likes of Alta Cedar Ultimate 130K used at Muridale and Evergreen and Alta cedar ultimate 8J used at Saskvalley.  One of 8J’s sons with huge impact is Saskvalley Navajo 153M now being used at Nick Steinke and Saskvalley Pioneer 126P a National Champion bull for Horseshoe Creek and Fantasy Lane with calves worldwide. This line is being carried on at Eionmor with senior herd sire Eionmor Ultra 4M.
Newbiggon Supreme was a son of Mandalong Super Flag, out of the imported Australian cow Mandalong Roany 51st. He was a twin born with Newbiggon Powerline used in the D’N Eden and Thorncliffe herds in Saskatchewan. Newbiggon Supreme was a senior herd sire for Dave and Pat Durie’s Duralta Shorthorns. At the Duralta Dispersal several herd sires were purchased in dam.  Some of these bulls were Bar C Supreme 6H used at Carter’s in BC. Duncairn Supreme and Scotsmorr Supreme 7H used in Saskatchewan. Sunalta Royal supreme 25H used at Dusty Valley in Alberta and Butterfield Krakatoa used at Butterfield’s in Alberta. Krakatoa is still seeing use AI across Canada.
One other line descending from Mandalong Super Flag again through Miami Flag 10G, Winalot Big Mac, Winalot Mighty Maxim then Butterfield’s F l’s Texas out of a Butterfield Krakatoa daughter. Texas’s two influential sons were T Bar Mactexas and Butterfield Able Seaman. Both of these bulls have descendants in Canada, USA, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia.

My dad went to the Durie dispersal, as I could not go, and he purchased two females bred to Newbiggon Supreme. Both had heifer calves and they were the foundations of two cow families that produced a lot of revenue for us over the years. One was a Goldie and the other was a Fairy. Super Flag had an incredible influence on Canadian Shorthorns, and I expect he is going to do it again. I have seen some excellent Super Flag daughters in recent months. I plan on using him myself again.

I am really excited about a pregnancy I scored from my Aunt and Uncle (Newbiggon Shorthorns the importers of Super Flag).  Best Christmas surprise yet I might add ;) This pregnancy is by Mandalong Superflag and out of Diamond Mystical Susan 30M, I lent them my TH cows as recipes so they have given me a great opportunity.

Newbiggon Jumbo we have embryos that we just put in the tank this year and a calf coming next spring by the Jumbo bull

Our first calf of 2011 arrived last night. A 78 lb heifer by Newbiggon Jumbo out of a Northern Legend 3N cow. Born outside at minus 25 C (minus 13 F) Here she is pictured moved to the barn, not heated but at least no wind!
Newbiggon Jumbo was sired by Mandalong Super Elephant and out of Mandalong Roany 51st. We have not had any calves by him since 1983. We had a couple of really good cows by him.
The dam, Frimley Rosy Dawn 14R is a direct descendant from the original cow we got in 1965 Braeside Rosy Dawn. This calf 1Y is generation #13. She is actually owned by my great nephew the 5th generation of Stephenson's to have Shorthorns in Canada!
The cow in the bottom photo was Diamond Lily May a Jumbo daughter.

okotoks.... I just sold a couple canes of Mandalong Super Flag semen to two Australian breeders who are wanting to bring back his influence to Australia. They want Super Flag back so much that the plan on flushing to him in Canada and shipping the embryos back to Aussieland. I think he is a going to get a second life!  I have had several emails and phone calls from the US as well for his genetics.

I also just completed two sales of embryos to Scotland ( 36 embryos in total) and included in this shipment will be embryos from Pheasant CreeK Leader 4th ( born in 1968) and Cumberland Gay Lad ( also born in the 60s). Seems there is interest in some of the real good bulls of the past worldwide.

Nice calves!

Anyone out there have opinions on Meadowbrook Chieftain 9th ?  I believe he's been discussed briefly in a few other threads.

I helped a "native shorthorn" breeder from Colorado find old semen few years back. Pretty sure he used Chieftain 9th. email me if you want his number .

I am speed reading but saw a couple of things-

Navajo is not breeding naturally at Nicks-  pretty sure he was let go of two yrs ago? Old bull though

Mandalong Super Flag- one of the first AI bulls - "Expensive" at the time of my fathers use. He laughs and tells the story of being called out of the field - "cow standing heat". He thaws the expensive ampule ( in cold water, longer process then today). Sleeves the female and she is ready to calve!! It makes me laugh too,, now when I see that bulls name I still laugh.

Winalot big mac - holly cow, I still think Scotty is still one of the most underused bulls in the breed. His dam  was  a big mac

The cow on the left is Chieftain 9ths dam.Ray Ediger has a daughter in a group of 2yr.olds that includes some Buster daughters and she fits right in.I have a daughter that doesn't look like much but her 1st calf was in the top end of last years spring crop.If you needed to clean up some udders or add milk without sacrificing thickness and soundness this guy would be a good choice.I believe he was born in  1966 had a 700 plus weaning weight and 1100 plus yearling weight and was probably around a 6 frame. There were herds that bred daughters back to him as many as 3 succesive generations  .He wasn't big enough for the Show crowd of the late 70's and 80's so he was passed by but at least in good company as some of the previous posts have shown.

Sue, what is your assessment of Scotty's frame size?  I quite like some of the females I saw from him, moderate, thick and red, but probably not the showy type.

I saw Scotty in 05 or 06. He didnt come up to Lloyd's shoulder?? we were pretty close to that wild bull:) Buckshot was even more moderate- the dam to scotty was there ( 05 or 06) she was definately a ton cow. What I like a bout a bull like Scotty- every daughter looked the same , lots of rib.
By the way... dont wait for a sale to visit Shadybrook, if you like cattle and great food - go now.
The showy type is changing - I guess thats why I mentioned this bull.  If you're a number chaser his epds are through the roof.

If you ask me, Scotty is a cow maker. I haven't seen a female by him I don't like.

Sue,

What is Scotty's full name or reg. number?

Dale, I'm definitely not Sue, but his name is Shadybrook Scotty. I've always thought the Scarlet 10W cow was an awesome cow.

The bull you should go digging for is DEERTRAIL BUCKShot, the sire of  SHADYBROOK SCOTTY . Buckshot's dam photoed in one of the last catalogs LGS SUNSHINE . .... OOH BOY, GROUND SOW.
Buckshot daughters are just as consistant as Scotty-  Buckshot was more moderate then Scotty. I saw buckshot in 2000. ... either way a win... however buckshot is solid red, no white marks? If you care

Where would one go to obtain some straws of Deertrail Buckshot?  Love the name btw. Is he on the New York Times best selling book, "Shorty Heifer Bulls" by aj Allen Coe?
