A few days ago, just prior to our online embryo sale, I received a phone call from a cattle producer in Texas. I answered the phone and this man said who he was and then he said" I hope I did not get you out of bed". It was 5:30 pm and I assured him that it was a long time from when i usually crashed. He was absolutely amazed that we were the same time as it was where he lived. I told him that I was pretty well straight north of where he was, and that surprised him as well. ( I am not sure if he had any idea where Saskatchewan is situated). After we had talked about the sale offering for awhile, he told me that he was also surprised that he was able to understand me as good as he did. I asked him what language he thought I would speak and he said" well, I wasn't real sure, but I thought I had heard somewhere that Canada spoke another language". Well he was partly right as French is spoken in some parts of eastern Canada ( particilarly Quebec).... by the way, my offer to trade Quebec for Alaska and Hawaii still stands...

For many years, I have had numerous people say to me at the Denver show, that they are amazed that I would travel so far to attend that show. Most times I live closer to Denver than the person who is saying this to me. From my house to the outskirts of Denver, is exactly 800 miles. I am 800 miles from Omaha, 1000 from KC, 1000 miles from Chicago. Over the years, I have been asked some rather bizarre things. One lady asked me if we were able to get things like cake mixes, or hamburger helper up in Canada, or do we just eat what we can grow?( How does one answer that politely?)

I was thinking about this today and thought that it may be interesting for us to suggest some things about your home state or province that someone else may not know:
Here are a few things about Saskatchewan:

- Saskatchewan is approximately the same size as Texas. It is made up of 1/2 forest, 1/3 farmland and 1/8 of it's total area is fresh water. There are over 100,000 lakes.
Saskatchewan has 70% of the world's potash and over 80% of the world's uranium. The largest uranium mining corporation and supplier, is a Saskatchewan company and has it's world Headquarters here ( Cameco)
- Saskatchewan is second, only to South Africa in diamond mining.
- Saskatchewan exports more oil to the US than Kiwait.
-Saskatchewan produces 40% of Canada's grain.
- Saskatchewan has the second largest cow herd in Canada. There are approx 1.5 million beef cows. There are only 1.05 million people.
_ Saskatchewan is considered an agricultural economy, however forestry and mining, and energy ( oil and Natural gas) employ more people and fuel the economy more.
-Saskatchewan has some of the most accessible gold deposits in the world.
- the oil sands in Saskatchewan are bigger than the Alberta oil sands but is a little harder to access. it is estimated that there is more oil in these deposits than are found in the entire Middle east.
A new pay zone of oil has been recently tapped in SE  Saskatchewan that is reported to have more oil than Saudi Arabia.

For the lady who asked about the cake mixes and hamburger helper... here are a few things that have been invented in Canada:
- Basketball and hockey
- insulin
- light buls
- telephone
-telegraph
-television camera
- LSD was invented in my home town.... in a pych hospital in the late 50s.
- electric stove
-your blackberry
- kerosene
- plastic garbage bags
- television
- snowmobile
-plexiglass
- electron microscope
-Superman
- IMAX
and most important..... the zipper and the wonder bra.... by the way... can anyone explain to me why bra is singular... and panties is plural?  One of the many unaswered questions that bug me!!

Oh , one more thing... Captain Kirk is Canadian..... so you better treat us right!

so.... us Canucks are more than a bunch of beer drinking, back bacon eating snow lovers.

Tell us some things that your state is famous for.
There are many more....

The buckeye actually got its name because of the nuts that looked like an open eye of a deer.

Hey JIT you just blew my whole reason for liking the Canadians right out of the water!!    I thought you guys didn't care much for all the new age fancy stuff and still had your priorities in the right place--the outdoors, cattle, hockey, and, of course, beer!   I'm really disappointed---you almost sound like you could be from Minnesota---I'm sorry--that's low even for me!!  Just kidding!!

I live 30 miles from the home of Spam and the Spam museum--its in Minnesota of course.  I understand your frustration about rationalizations concerning your home as well.    Have you ever heard anyone describe Iowa without using the word corn??   Its more than just one big corn field--we raise soybeans, too!!

I also share your wonder at the vernacular surrounding women's undergarments--of course there are a lot of things about females I don't fully understand--most likely never will!!   It doesn't keep me from appreciating them, however!!

Well, CO has Pikes Peak, the Great Divide, and the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. We not only have a high mountain, but we also have a Banana Belt! Pretty cool stuff.

(Well, we also have the best college, being Colorado State University. GO RAMS!!  (lol))
