I am hearing that some 4-H clubs and Regional shows are putting in rules that 4-Her's have to own (declare) their steers before the end of September for June July shows.  When I was in 4-H we had to declare our steers at the end of December.  What are you local rules?  This is in Canada so any Canadians out there let me know what your declare date is.  We have some prospect sales in November like Canadian Western Agribition will this start to cut into our buyers?

First of July for Tulsa State Fair which is first week of October, and first part of November for OYE which is mid March.

I think that some people do not want kids to buy steers that have been through a show.  If they think that this is going to stop people from buying steers I do not think it will work.  People that buy steers will have to just buy them earlier.

Texas has gone so far as to set up an ownership and "tag-in" for heifers. That they have set up for the month of October for spring majors starting this year and July for fall majors. It's kind of Ridiculous if you ask me.

4H entries are due here on November 15th and open show entries are due on December 1st.  Open show entries used to be one month before the show, but the rules were changed about 5 years ago.

The show is held 3 weeks before Easter so can range from the end of February to the end of March.

Most 4-H clubs here in Manitoba weigh project steers on in the first couple weeks of December.  Many buy steers at the Agribition prospect sale.

In my 4-H club which is in Alberta we have a 210 (might be 205, but in that ballpark) day minimum time that you must own the steer before you show him at our show which is the first week of June. We used to weigh our steers the week before Agribition but we now weigh the week after to allow kids to buy there.
